Iv had a cb in every truck Iv owned.

I think that is the first thing I try to figure where to install.

Im using a thru the window antenna and it does fairly well for me but I plan to move the antenne either to the fender or get a Wilson Mag Mount or have the thing installed in the roof. Havent deceided yet.

My CB has saved me from a lot of time waiting in traffic and also from several speeding tickets. It is really handy when towing with my buddys too.

My setup isn't fancy but pretty inexspensive. I think i have about $70 in mine. I figured that payed for at least one speeding ticket. :D :-laf

It's a must have for trail riding. Also have one in tow vehicle. As others have said, I have avoided hours of waiting time avoiding accident scenes and on one long trip I tagged along with a trucker for several hours and chatted with him. He even had me to pull ahead of him so he could take a peek at my Jeep CJ7 I had on the trailer :)

I've got pics of my setup in my reader's rigs. I don't have the antenna up when I'm just out local, but for road trips, I feel naked without it.

I agree with all the above, My only problem with cb's now is people with POTTY mouths. Used to talking on the CB was pretty clean. I am no saint and on occasion let a string out if someone cuts me off, etc. Some guys it is every other word!!! I know it is against federal law to cuss over the air waves but who is going to monitor and catch guys. I guess before people was worried so did not cuss. Some are so bad if I still had kids would not turn on the CB with them in the vehicle. I wish people would consider who might be listening and monitor their language appropriately. Okay off my box.

I have a galaxy 95T peaked and tuned it's going in my truck it puts out 200 watts pep out the back

with wilson 5000 antenna

other radios I have

are rci 2970 and 2990 base the rci do 150 watts am

uniden pc78xl

uniden pc 68 xl

linear texas star dx 500v

cb is a nice thing to have it has helped us a great deal

The first two of my nine cross country trips last year were without the CB. The remaining seven trips with the CB were much different. Knowing the immediate traffic conditions is very important when towing 34 feet of trailer. Many times knowing what lane to be in avoided long delays in traffic accident areas, or more importantly, know what lane debris, metal scraps, pot holes, etc. are in avoided significant damage.

For day to day driving I occasionally turn the CB on. When pulling a load or attending group events, I would not be without a CB. It is a convenience appliance. Use it when you want to. As a safety appliance, using it is very important.

For modding a radio, are the Uniden 520s doable? I like the small up to date look of them. I searched for the ones you guys listed and they look kinda "80s".

I would have to agree. I tire of listening to it myself.

No generally the only small Unidens like that that I have seen modded are 510's and even then you can't do as much to them as you can a Cobra 25/29 or Uniden PC66/78. You wanna see 80's..... I have a Cobra 148F in my truck. :-laf

Check Ebay... ... a lot of Cobra 25's/29's go for around $50 on there. If your worried about size I would just pic up a 25 sounds like it will be all you need. ;)

I have room in the truck, but I just don't want a VCR sized CB :-laf I'm looking at the Uniden PC66 Cbs, they pretty decent?

Yes PC66's are very good radios. Had a buddy with one that was all modded out plus an additional final and it was doing 60-70 watts (stock radio is 4!) :-laf

66 or 25 are both around the same radio, just personal preference. ;)

GS I am going to be down that way in about 1. 5 months. I have a PC78Elite that could use some of that work done to it.

Does he work on Sundays?

I was going to put a small CB in the overhead pocket but the one I had was junk, so I broke out the old 29. I use my center seat pretty often so that wasn't an option and I couldn't find anywhere on or under the dash that I had enough room for. I cut the overhead console flat and screwed the brackets to the inside of the roof. I think it is a nice clean install. It's out of the way and no need to run an exterior speaker.
