Ahh, I see what a shelf-it is now. Thanks.

bmoeller,

The only difference I see between the two radios is the logo over the frequency counter is different! Otherwise, they're exactly the same. I wonder if they're made by the same company and "rebadged"?

They may look the same, but they are not. The Cobra 148 is a CB radio and the Connex is a 10 meter.

Cobra 148GTL

Connex 4800DXL

The 10 meter radios can be setup to run on the same frequencies as a CB radio, though. I have Magnum S-6 that is.

My guess is, that the housings are made by one company, and the particular radio manufacturer stuffs their own guts into it. Some of the Galaxy radios use a similar housing. A DX33HML being one of them. And a Galaxy DX88HL looks like a Connex 4800 as well.

Mark, a current production Connex 4800DXL doesn't look much different than your 148F.

Yeah but looks is all that are similar. That Connex is a dual final radio capable of doing around 100 watts PEP on CB frequencys.

My 148F is a single final radio that is maxed out to about 45-50 watts by my local tech. ;)

Hey Scott I absolutely LOVE that install... . I may check around and see if I can find another console and try that in my truck. ;) :D

GS I am going to be down that way in about 1. 5 months. I have a PC78Elite that could use some of that work done to it.

Does he work on Sundays?

No sorry he's a very reglious man so Sunday he is in church. His shop hrs are Tuesday thru Saturday 10AM-6PM.

Mark, re-read my last post on page 3. ;)

So where are you guys running the antenna? I was thinking of putting a lil Wil or Wilson 500 on the roof, but I'm not sure I want the coax rubbing on the paint.

I run a Wilson 1000 on the car and a Wilson 5000 on the roof of the truck...

My new Connex 4600 is impressive so far... I have talked over 25 miles during the daytime and was talking about 40 last night coming through Ohio... that is all I know at this point, but it is impressive.

Nothing other antenna than a Wilson 5000 magnent mount with ground plain kit in my book! ;)

My paints peeling bad so I don't care. Usually if you just get it tight across the area of the truck the coax itself won't "scuff" the paint. ;)

Here's how I did mine:

The plastic "cover" over the coax was purchased at Lowes and has a self adhesive 3M backing. I painted it with some Krylon plastic paint and it matches the truck pretty well as you can see. You can remove the wire out of the side of the tube. It keeps the coax from moving around and grinding the dirt into the paint. It also lets me move the antenna closer to the center of the roof without exposing a loose wire across my roof.

I notched the rear brake light with a round file and used clear silicone to seal up the gap where the coax runs into the truck. It's a nice, clean install I think.

Where did you run the coax in the truck Spooled??

Is it under the headliner?? If so, how much of a PIA was it to run??

Iv got a thru the window mount but want to change to something else and was curious how the coax was done.

Thanks.

What kind of ground plane kit you got on the 5000 mag?
