Sorry but here goes...

I have a Wilson 2000 on the driver's side fender. The guy that sold it to me sold it with a 9' cable. I read on the firestik site that for optimum performance I should use an 18' cable and not coil it to avoid the rf "choke". Would it be worth switching to the 18 footer?

Are these kickers the same thing as a "linear" I used to hear truck drivers talk about when I used to drive?

Beautiful example of some of the Voodoo and Magic used to operate them BIG raDIDeos.

Folks use 4 watts and less to communicate over thousands of miles in the ham bands. It's called "QRP" which means "low power".

Okay now move your antenna as high as you can get it, and away from other metal objects. (The best antenna for CB is the 102" whip. --cheap durable effective and nobody steals them).

RF choke--yes they're very good to have. It reduces the signal that is on the OUTSIDE of your coax. The signal you want--and want to radiate is on the INSIDE of your coax. Many ham antenna installations recommend coiled coax for that very reason. GEEZ.

Oh yes, the magical length of coax. Every foot of coax you have attenuates the signals passing through it. More is not better. Buy the best coax you can get and cut it to fit and do a real good job soldering the connectors on. Then use the antenna adjustments and a SWR meter or antenna analyzer to tune the system.

Lingo. Can't call anything what it actually is on CB. Linear Amplifier= kicker, box, foot warmer (from the tube days), amp, fire for the wire, etc. ad nauseum.

Amps used by CB'ers are usually overpriced and underfiltered. They cause about as much extra noise on the band as anything. The whole CB band would be easier to communicate on if the FCC enforced any of their rules there.

Okay, You don't care about all the techno mumbo jumbo, just get a decent Cobra 29 or 148 and put a noise cancelling mike on it, a 2-300 watt amp wired properly, and have a qualified person set it up for you.

Or get a "Now You're Talking" book at Radio Shack and learn some ham stuff and really have fun with radio communications.

Or yak on the CB.
