I was just commenting recently about all the b. s. laws we have here,yet no diesel smog checks. Guess it's good for Marco,Bob and Smarty although Dodge engineers and the state would love to uncover anything we do to enhance performance. The Gov. was contemplating reinstating smog checks on vintage vehicles too. Those showcars are rarely driven,what's the point? He's been listening too much to Maria.

Does this mean all trucks mfd after 1,1,10 or will this also mean older trucks will need to pass through? in MD and most other states on the east coast as I understand it are adapting to CA laws soon

1997 and newer trucks under 8500 lbs. "GVW" looks like they will start a pilot program Jan 09 that will go for 2 years and while it requires the above trucks registered in the biannual testing areas to test, owners will be provided suggestions on a way to decrease emissions and not fined.

Enforcement of emission failures starts in 2011.

My 98. 5 got sniffed in CT this year. Put SMARTY on 1/2 passed right through! was bummed I had to do it at a Furd dealer on 1/2 power, UGH! I guess thats "normal" for them ! LOL!

After living most of my in Ca. I wonder what took so long. I think Willy Brown didn't get his palms greased this year, because the big 3 can't afford to pay off the politicians (contribute to their campaigns) and we will pay for it. The smog check stations must be paying more. I'm glad I have not modified my trucks, the CTD's don't wear for many miles and wont be a problem except paying the new tax (necessary smog certificate). :{:{:{:{:{:{:{:{

They wanna get pushy I will just reg my truck in Needles its Ca side but smog exmept out there I learned of that when I had my old crewcab and dropped a 440 in it yrs ago .

I knew it was a good idea to keep a spare ve with all the factory adjustment seals in tact. It might be a pain to change them out every two years on both trucks but... .

Aren't all of the Dodge diesels rated at 8800 lbs. or more?

Washington state has been smog checking light diesel trucks for years, When I had my 95 CTD it was pretty well maxed out on power. (loved to smoke)

depending on how CA does the smog check you guys should not have any problems. In WA we did the "snap test" if I remember correctly. Never has any problems with my truck, just more damn $$$$ to the state welfare system.

When Arnold first came to power,one of the first things he did was reduce vehicle registrations immensely. In my case the '99 dropped about $200 as I remember. He's slowly softening up his conservative stance and pouring on the "user fees",translate :"taxes". I think aside from another bureaucracy sucking a biannual fee out of us,we'll survive. My house is almost paid for,last month's utilities were $48. 00,and my grave is pre-dug in the backyard. I'll be staying for the duration. Too spoiled by the surf and climate.

According to the link Matt posted (thanks, Matt), GVW over 8500 lb vehicles are exempt. That is good news. How long that will be true is up to the socialist legislature.

Open your drivers door it should say there some place

this is GVW not CGVW the C stands for combined meaning with a trailer etc



my 2007. 5 Dually 3500 is 10,000 gvw on my registration which as I understand it is loaded with people and a ton of weight. each state may vary

my truck empty weighs about 8,000 lbs

I am a little bit confused, the poster says 8600 lbs but when you read the link to the law he posted it uses the number of 14000. I hope I misunderstand what I am reading since all three of my trucks have a GVW of over 86oo but not 14k????

I am reading the bill to include all diesels built after 1997 "and" all diesels under 8501 GVW. So all small diesels regardless of YOM and all after 1997.
