I've noticed several people have "misplaced" their Ca. equipment, is there a huge benefit in removing?
Also, do you just cork, plug and generally block off all the holes, what about the electrical connections?
No codes/check engine light or problems with the stuff, but it is in the way of maintenance.
Obviously an afterthought that was implemented without much notice.
I took a couple pics and dotted the parts in red that I think are the offenders.
Leave it alone or leave it behind??

The 96 will set a dtc but no light, the 97 will turn on the light and set dtc. At stock power levels not much difference. The intake has small passage way in it to create a Venturi to allow the egr to be induced..You can use a manifold from an earlier year or buy an aftermarket.the egr tube fitting can be blocked off using a plate,or again buy an aftermarket non egr manifold

Thanks for the info , Bob4x4 , guess I should wait until a new manifold rises to the top of the wish-list, which may take some time as the list seems to grow every time I spend an hour or so on this site. :D

There are many 12 valves parted out all the time. Keep an eye on the classifieds, Craig's list, etc. I wouldn't buy it from a Dodge dealer even if it were available. I have an intake horn and a cover plate in the shop, I might even have a cover plate gasket. I've never seen a CA engine, so don't know if you need anything else. PM me if you are interested in what I have.

All that is needed is the manifold and one gasket if the heater is built as part of the intake plate,if the heater is separate you my need 2 of the gaskets. You will also need to fab up a cover plate for where the egr tube attached to the exhaust manifold or better yet step up to an aftermarket exhaust manifold
