Those of you who have California licensed trucks and qualify for a handicapped parking placard should know that the law affecting handicapped license plates has changed this year. In the past if your truck weighed over 6000 lbs unladen you could not get handicapped license plates for it. Thus you still had to pay the weight fee for commercial vehicles. That weight limit has been changed to 8001 lbs. The change in the vehicle code is shown at:

This little change is saving me $204 per year in licensing fees.
You might have trouble with the DMV over the fees. The ones here in Eureka insisted on charging me the weight fees even though I now qualify for the plates. I had to rub their noses in the law and get a refund for excess fees from DMV in Sacramento.
My year long fiasco with the DMV over the title to my truck has been resolved. I now officially own it again and they know it.
