I have a 96' 2500 SLT 4x4 5 Speed for sale in Colorado and have a gentleman from California interested in purchasing it. I do not know the emissions regulations in California and I am not sure if the would be purchaser knows the regulations either. Does anyone know if the purchaser would have any problem registering it in CA? I live in a rural county that does not require any emissions and I am currently running a straight 4" exhaust. I don't want the buyer to get any unexpected surprises when he gets home.

Other than paying the overpriced rip off registration fees, He will have no problem registering an out of state '96. Truck is over 2 years old and has more than 7500mi, and DMV doesn't do visual inspections and do not require smog cert so..... should be no problem. Only thing he may have to do is get a certified wieght on the truck.

We just bought a 2k out of New Mexico just about 3 weeks ago. I was told that we had to have a certified weight ticket. . but when my wife went to the DMV they didn't even ask for it.

We had no problems with the purchase of the truck. There was no problem with DMV either. The total of DMV fees were $1637. 00

That included the sales tax, lic. fees and also my wifes personal plates. 'MOMSDSL'

Would I buy an out of state truck again..... yes...

Send a PM to TDR member Brandon. He bought his truck Smokey in Utah I think, a couple years back. It's a 12 valver, so it was definitely 2+ years old and had ??? miles on it. Brandon lives in Central California (Modesto area).

You can tell california you paid what ever you want for the truck, but if it's under something like $2,000 you will have a hard time getting full coverage for it. You have to pay taxes on the purachace value... . and why does california need to get deeper into our pockets??

just registered my 2001 with 40k on it they checked to make sure it was a diesel, they wanted to see the engine data plate but the girl didn't want to climb under the truck so she whipped it. $393. 00 out the door.

She also checked the gvwr on the door post and the vin.

I didn't want to wait til after Oct 1st when the fees triple.

It all depends on how the bill of sale is written up true, but in my case the friggen buyer had to have the bill of sale drawn up by his credit union, which reflected the full purchase price of $25K at the time I bought it:{ :{ :{ ... ... If you go too low, DMV will have doubts- you're only allowed so much as a gift. Either way, CA DMV is the definition of taking it in the rear.

And what the heck are they doing with the money anyway?? CERTAINLY not maintaining the roads or highway rest stops, I can assure you of that.

Maybe its to fund another recall election:rolleyes:

Or at least to fund the printing of the 12 page ballot. No wonder everyone thinks we're a bunch of clowns.

If you go to low they will make up a number, I'm not kidding they will look it up and base your fees on that number.
