If I recall correctly the Calif. S/O engine is de-rated to 235 HP from 250 HP. What would be the best way to recover that lost HP?

I have two S/O engine trucks. The lost power can be made up with a Diesel Dynamics TTPM box. It is fairly cheap and you can kick butt on most other trucks. It comes with a boost elbow that adds boost to help keep her cool. Greg

The CA SO engines may only have 235HP but they have 460ft/lbs torque, the regular SO is 250HP and 450ft/lbs. I did not have a choice being in MA, same as CA, but I would rather have the torque than the HP. It would be interesting to put a SO CA and non CA on a dyno and see if there is really any difference.

Bertram65 - good point on the torque. I was just wondering if any of the boxes would boost HP and TQ without harming the engine.

Greg - I have looked at a lot of boxes and are still learning about them. My hesitation is due to what long term effects the boxes may have. I'm partial to the ones that plug in without any modifications so that they can be removed prior to any servicing.

I cant guarantee that a box will not cause problems. It will be fine if you monitor boost and egt's. I have been running one on my wifes truck since november and it is great. Both of the boxes in my signature have been working flawlessly. Both put up nice HP/Torque numbers. Both are a plug in only application. They cannot be noticed when going in for service as long as they are removed.
