Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) CA Smog

The time has come. i managed to get by last year but now I have to get one so Gov. Brown can have some more money to waste.

i live in Long Beach, CA. Can anyone recommend a inspectiion statiion that will take a realistic attitude? My changes are not visible, except the "K" hook on the waste gate. The exhaust is a 4" Jardine but the last TDR mag had an article that listed the forms that prove the 02 did not come with a Cat converter.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

My Son lives in the Inland Empire of So Ca. He had his done at just one of those pass or dont pay deal's. He didnt even try to hide his Smarty JR or any other of the mod's that he has made. He put everything back to stock (I guess you can de arm The Smarty)? took it in and his place never even lifted the hood. Ran the RPM up a few times and paid Jerry Brown. I think its just a way to separate you from some of your money.

RClark, be careful. I went through the process a couple months back on my ’99. I visited several local shops inquiring as to what would cause a fail. In short, what I found was that were good shops and "those" that ran by the book using creepers, mirrors looking for alterations that don’t comply with KA. regs; Including a tech standing at the rear of the truck timing the snap idle test checking for smoke emissions. Remove the hook it is a visual fail,make sure you have had the emmisions recall if you received a notification and you should be good to go. Smarty back to stock of course

Of course... :-laf My neighborhood is wall to wall professionals; I'm betting that at least half of them smoke the stuff. Only in KA. Personally, I can't even get close to the stuff since my AME is now into hair plucking.

Shave your head and pull your pants down to have them PLUCK the hair from there. :-laf Dont laugh a driver at work read that in HIGH TIMES and actually Thought it was true, I asked him did they pluck it from the front or REAR as he was escorted out the gate. They got insanely sure that a gas truck driver was clean. Got to the point of asking about my Motrin intake/ Only taken when needed (most of the time) Why I played to ruff and broke a few bones and then dropped my fake legg and said Ooops YES they DID GET P O

I asked my Son on the phone today what exactly did they do to his. Pluged in their computer to his under the dash. and ran the RPM's up a few times. Gave him the OK slip took his money and ran or was it he ran He wasn't sure who ran. 60 bucks

Check your emission label for whether it had a cat or not, most if not all 2001. 5 and up had cat. basically they use books and your emission label under the hood to determine what is required for your vehicle, and whether it is federal or california certified, anything not stock or aftermarket without a C>A>R>B> label is fail. That goes from air box to computer add ons. i just return mine to stock when it is time, doesnt take that long to do, we get plenty of warning before testing, our renewal notice comes 3 months in advance. We can thank the idiots that fill intersections with smoke for this law, if it was not for the complaints we would not have tests. Or we can just buy 99 and older and not worry. So simple, put air box back on, take out chip, programmer or what ever you got, even plug egt hole if you are worried, took me 1 hour to remove and install everything back after test. My truck does not smoke even with comp in. we are in the same boat that everyone else is with their 5 year old cars, they pass everytime, so why test em, oh well thats the way it is, diesel burns more efficiently than gas, but not if its pouring from your tailpipe via black smoke over fueled condition.

The emission label should be on radiator support, that is where mine is.
