All,

I just had my dealer (a friend at the dealer) install Cab Clearance lights on my Deep Cherry Red 2014 2500. They really did a beautiful job. They said it took many more hours than they charge for to do it. The labor is about $400 if you pay retail. That's basically 4 hours, and they told me it took more than twice that. BUT:

The lenses are orange. I think most of the 2014's I have seen have clear lenses. Are there two colors? Different colors for different years? Different colors for different paint colors?

Switching lense colors isn't tough now that the installation is done, just wondering. Was expecting clear...

Thoughts?

Greg,

The Dealer used part number 82207252-AC. That explains the difference. It looks like they were ORANGE up through '09 on the 2500's. '10 through '14 I think should be clear...

BTW I know it belongs in another thread but since you follow this stuff closely: The dealer also reflashed my PCM from 32370231AJ to 32370231AK, and my Exhaust Brake seems to operate differently. I would normally assume it was just psychosomatic, but I noticed the change in the brake operation BEFORE I noticed they had done a reflash...

You appear to be the proud (?) owner of 3rd GEN cab clearance lights on a 4th GEN truck. I see you modified your post as I was typing this. I knew they were 3rd GEN lights as I owned a 2007.5 RAM 3500 Mega Cab SRW 4x4.

Go back to the "dealer" and have them swap them out for the correct lights. The "bolt pattern" for the lights should be the same. If the "dealer" gives you any crap.....simply ask them to follow you onto the lot and show you a 4th GEN with amber cab lights. If that does not work, ask to see the GM. You have all the evidence you need within this thread. Good luck !!!

Was the change in the Exhaust Brake for the better? or did it make it seem less functional?

Greg: My buddy is the GM! So should be no problem. He's gonna shake his head and then be embarrassed at his parts guy. I feel bad for him already.

MPaulson: In short, BETTER. In another thread I wrote this about my last (prior)reflash:

It didn't make any difference in my case. I'm still confused about the operation of the brake.

I come off a ramp from a downhill freeway at 60+ mph in Tow/Haul and Manual Exhaust Brake mode. Using just touches on the brake pedal, the exhaust brake will engage through every gear all the way down to 2nd, and release at about 20mph in second gear. I use the brake pedal to come to a stop at the light. This is the kind of operation I would expect from the brake. I then let my foot off the brake and give just a touch on the throttle (it's still down hill) to turn right down a short, steep grade with a speed limit of 35mph. I don't speed here because there's a light at the bottom of the hill. Even if I manually hold the truck in second with the button, it will roll right through 20mph and keep accelerating with only the compression of the engine to help slow the truck, no Exhaust Brake at all.

But yesterday when I went down the same hill, the exhaust brake came on and stayed on all the way down the hill till I dropped to very low speed/rpm - guessing 20mph or so. I don't know if that's just the computer behaving differently (they seem to have a mind of their own) or if it's a result of the new flash. Time will tell...

I've read conflicting reports on other forums regarding exhaust brake operation before and after re-flashes. Not sure if there's a trend or not, but from what I recall, most of the complaints appear to come from owners of the 68RFE trucks....very few complaints from G56 or Aisin owners.
