2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Cab light seals

Anyone know where a guy can get seals for the cab lights and screws on a 1999 1-ton? I had a couple of drops of water come out of my overhead console after a rain and figure one of the cab lights (probably the center one) must be leaking. I just called the local Dodge dealer and was told they only sell the seals in a kit with a new light and screws, $32 each or so. Nice, $32 to fix a 50 cent seal.



I know $2 tube of silicone will probably do the job and that is what I will do before buying complete new light kits but I would rather fix it the right way if someone knows where I can get just the parts I need.

You should be able to find the little plastic washers for the screws at Lowes or your local Hardware store in the "bins" section. Do the pvc number on the base gaskets. The lens on one of mine cracked and I ended up buying all five lights new as there was a problem with the originals. bg

To the best of my knowledge, no one makes just the replacement gaskets (I've searched).



What might work is to take an old gasket out from under one of the lights to get an estimate the thickness (1/8" maybe?) and then order a sheet of closed cell neoprene gasket material from McMaster-Carr so you can cut your own.



A complete kit consisting of 5 lenses, gaskets, hardware, and wiring can be ordered online from a Dodge part dealer for about $78 + shipping.

i just used silicone on my recon lights and no leak issues. when i pulled off the old lights there were no gaskets just silicone and i belive they were on the truck since new. good luck

Can you replace the light bulbs themselves in the cab lights? I have one burnt out and tried to get it out but the lense(s) wouldn't separate. I took both screws out and tried to pry it apart bu it wouldn't budge. This is on my '97. I figured I would make sure the bulb is replaceable before I break. If you have replaced them, what's the trick to get the lense apart and where did you get the bulb?

i think the whole kits way cheaper than $32 each. i was thinking the while kit was like $50. for that matter why not just get a set of recons, they look better anyway.

You can replace just the bulb on the 99s anyway, I think they are the same as the 97s. I got my bulbs at O'reilly I think. It has been a long time since I had one off but as I recall, the whole light comes off the roof after removing the two screws and then the light socket comes out of the bottom of the light. But like I say, its been a long time.

Take the two screws out and lift the lens off the roof. The bulb is in a twist off socket that attached to two wires in the bottom of the lens. You only have to turn it 90 degrees, then pull straight out.

well if your saying the light case will not come off the cab roof try some fishing line or dental flose and work under the lip. if this is the case its either just stuck from age or someone has done the silicone on that one prior or just stuck from age. the bulb should twist out. sometimes the bulbs get hot over along time and burn out and get stuck from heat. if your not sure which way to twist look at the replacement bulb and check the seating on it and which way. on my lenses on a prior truck when I put on lights instead of plastic washers for the screws I used rubber o-rings. hope this helps

I have looked every where for replacement bulbs but nobody lists them (Advanced, AutoSupermarket, etc), does anybody have a NAPA part number or one off there replacement bulbs?

I agree with the neoprene bit. I went to Home Depot and bought new square plugs and stainless screws. This was while I was putting in the Recons. Gotta make it look good! I had to cut the stock wires and solder on the new wires because the light sockets were different. #@$%!

No the socket twists out, not the bulb. Pull a little harder, there is 2 or 3 inches of wire harness in there. The bulbs pull straight out. The type you need is listed in the owners manual and might even be printed on the bulb. If you don't have an owners manual repost and I'll go outside and look it up.

just got the new LMC Truck Parts: Chevy Chevrolet Blazer S10 GMC Jimmy S15 Ford Bronco Ranger Pickup Pick Up Accessories/Catalogs and they have 3 different replacement clearance lights pretty cheap. I will call them and ask if they have a rubber gaskey on the bottoms.
