Cab lights install.

I know there has been lots of questions about installing cab lights, plus the likes and dislikes. In any case, somewhere I read that someone talked about drilling one size smaller then the 1/4" mounting hole as indicated with the instructions. I can see where that might make for a "tighter" fit for the mounting screws, and would prevent any turning of the plastic insert. For those of you who have installed the Mopar cab lights, did you have any issues with the 1/4 holes, or would you recommend going down one bit size ?

I bought the kit for mine, but have yet to install it. My plan is to drill smaller holes than specified.

I installed mine. It was the Mopar kit with template. I would step down one size. I did run the screws in the plastic inserts before snapping them into the roof but some of them still turned. Had to put a little super glue to hold them. Other than that took my time and have had zero problems with them.

Are the 2018 pre wired, or do you have to pull the pilars, and headliner. and do you have a part number for the kit.

When I installed my cab lights a few years back, I had a mobile windshield guy come out one morning & pull my windshield out. Installed the cab lights over the next couple of hours or so. That afternoon he came back and reinstalled the windshield. I think I paid 50 bucks for him to do that. Was worth every penny not having to pull everything from the overhead console to the visors and pillar covers etc.

Thanks for the info on the hole size. I plan on painting the drill holes and hopefully that might help to keep the tabs from turning. But I will also check and see if the tabs would fit dropping down 2 drill bit sizes.. The part number for the Mopar kit is, 82211190AB. Not sure if the 2018 is pre wired or not. I believe that you still would need to drop the headliner to have access to the lights and wire, or do has previous mentioned and have the windshield removed.

I installed mine and the truck is/was prewired. Did not use the smaller drill size and did not have an issue with that, but it's a good idea. I did use silicone to prevent leaks. That also helped keep them from turning. The only problem I had over time was one lens collected water. Removed that, dried it out and silicone around the gasket. The gaskets are flimsy so they need to be exactly in place. I did not get water in the cab because I siliconed the wire and grommet where it comes thru the metal. Makes it a little harder to change a bulb if needed but no water inside is better and worth it to me. The worst part of the job is dropping the headliner to do this. You don't remove it unless the windshield is out. Drop and work around it. If I had ordered the truck rather than buying one off the lot I would definitely include these on the order rather than go thru what I had to do. BTW, the worst part for me was remembering (which I did not) how the seat belts attached to the side pillars. Make notes or take pictures unless you have a photographic memory. Rear belts too.

thanks for the part numbers, and advice, but I'm going to wait until my windshield get broken.
