I'm a little confused on the cab options for the new 2010 trucks. What is available? Reg cab and is it now the crew cab and mega cab or quad and crew cab?

What are the differences and how long are the beds? Are they making a full size crew cab with a long bed this year?

Thanks

I just read the info on the site. It looks like the quad cab was changed to the crew cab. Is the crew cab bigger than the old quad cab?

Read our coverage from the press intro back at the chicago auto show: 2010 Dodge Ram Press Introduction TDR Coverage - there's a lot of that kind of information in there. Yes, the crew cab is larger than the old quad cab. The Mega Cab has about 2. 5 inches more leg room than the new crew cab with the other 8. 5 inches being space behind the rear seats (the Mega Cab is 11 inches longer than the crew).

the crew can have either a 6'3" (short) or 8" (long) bed.

the Mega is still only available with a shortbed

they don't have a frame long enough for a mega crew. the Crewcab longbed is longer(8") than a mega short but is still too short to put a longbed on the mega (11" too short)

According to the dodge website, they in fact do have a frame long enough to accomodate the Mega Cab with a long bed. The Crew Cab Long Bed has a wheel base of 169. 5". The Chassis Cab has an option for a wheel base of 188. 5" or 204. 5". 188. 5 - 169. 5 = 19 inches. (There's your extra 11+ inches), see, plenty of length for the Mega Cab Long Bed.

2 problems, the chassis cab frame isn't directly compatible with a megacab or a p/u bed. The CC and P/U have entirely different frames. the p/u bed can be modified to install on a chassis cab but Dodge isn't going to do it. those that have installed a regular bed on a CC have had to lenghten the bed or deal with a huge gap between the bed and cab and have to deal with several inches of frame extending out the back of the bed.

and the chassis cab is still the old body style so it is comparing apples and oranges. THe bed of the 2010 is longer by 2"-2. 5" also.

Simple answer is there is a frame long enough but the Mega cab and p/u box won't fit it.

I guess I'm just not seeing a market for a MCLB... especially with the new crew cab's... . have you seen one? My local dealer has a Crew Cab Long Bed and it's ridiculously huge.

re: MCLB

The market may not be large, but it is definitely there. Otherwise, you wouldn't see people stretching the frames to make one. This has apparently been done enough for at least one Texas dealership to do the arrangements.

re: 2010 CCLB

I've seen one, I've even been in one, no test drive yet though. They are big yes, but it just doesn't seem to be as roomy as the Superduty Crew. I have a few friends that have the Fords and they seem to have more leg room in the back seat. I could be wrong... I haven't seen them immediately side by side, just going by memory.

I didn't notice the back seat of the new Dodge crewcab, but it was nice to see that the front seats have a full lower cushion that actually extends out to the back of your calf (or at least close). The old "Quadcab" seats barely seem to extend past half-point of your thigh.

I have been in the market for a true six man cab and an eight foot bed from Dodge for years. In my current truck, because of the height and angle of the safety seats, my kids feet are into the back of the front seats and almost over the center console. True, my current truck is just an extended cab, but I packed up the whole family and went down to the Dodge dealer about a year and a half ago. We fit both safety seats and kids in the back of a quad cab, and while there was more room there wasn't that much more room to justify the price of a new truck. Nothing personal against you guys that purchased a quad cab, it just didn't work for me.

I see the measurements Steve gave from the Mega from the Crew, but what's the difference from the Quad to the Crew? I have to have an 8 foot bed and I understand there is no Quad Cab anymore.

My understanding is that the 1500 still git the '09 sized "quad cab" while the 2500/3500s will get the larger "crew cabs" (available w/the 8' beds). The "Mega Cabs" are still available but only with the shorter beds, and like what was said earlier, about the same leg room as the crew cab but more room behind the rear seat

I would be interested in a Megacab with a full 8'' dually box or 8' flatbed chassis. I have other daily drivers so to me the ultimate tow rig would be a MegaCab Longbed.

My thought is anyone wanting the Mega at least try out the Crew Cab first to make sure it's not big enough. . . a lot of people probably bought Mega Cabs because the quad was just too tight, not because they necessarily wanted that big of cab. If the crew cab existed then many folks would have probably opted for it vs. the MC. I bet Dodge will sell a lot more CCs than MCs and so for the majority of the market the large cab long bed need will be satisfied.
