I have heard from reliable sources that the VIN is stamped on the frame so in order to stay consistent, change the dash plate with pop rivets, and take off the sticker in the door jamb and if you can't stick it back on put it in the glove compartment and say it fell off. As far as not being worth as much, that doesn't fly with me. It's no different than changing a water pump. You are improving and fixing stuff that is broken. I'm looking forward to having mine gone through, rattles tightened, new paint and rustproofing etc.
