2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Cable control axle shift

I found an article in a past TDR which referred to front end maintenance, which had a picture of a manual cable-controlled axle shift unit.

Can someone tell me where to get one, what the advantages and disadvantages might be and how difficult it is to install? And, of course, how expensive it is.
