I have a Banks CAI system on my truck. It has an oil filter that I don't like very much. Of course Banks has an odd ball size and no aftermarket dry or nano fiber filters will fit it (Banks 7 1/8" filter opening and biggest aftermarket is 6"). So after reading articles on stock CAI are just effective than an aftermarket one when not using a tuner/programer. Should I go back and replace my Banks w/ stock or another aftermarket CAI w/ dry filter? I don't know what the price is for a new stock one, but as you guys know a aftermarket one will cost any where from $300-$450.

I have a stock airbox with a 4 inch hole in the bottom and a "Cool Red Hose" between the stock airbox and turbo housing.

I am also using an Amsoil drop in stock replacement filter. Has been working for me. EGT's were under 1250F towing the Jeep out to Colorado (Buena Vista) from Iowa.

I probably have approx. $180. 00 in that setup.

Also, I just ordered the CFM+ Intake horn. I'll let you know how that improves things.

I do have Banks Techni Cooler that comes w/ an intake manifold. That is another question I forgot to ask. Will there be a difference in EGT w/ a stock box setup w/ like a Amsoil Nano Fiber Filter than an aftermarket one. Right now my EGT don't go over 1200* towing light and dailey driving on flats and hills.

I think my setup probably dropped the EGT's about 75-100 degrees.

I installed gauges back in Jan 07 and I would see close to 1300 on occasion.

On ramps and such. I didn't put the airbox mod and hose on until March of this year. Now it's hard to hit 1200F on the same On ramps. That's about the only time I get on it hard.

What is your goal? Are you just trying to get away from an oiled filter? What don't you like about it? Seems like if you service it properly IE; not too much oil, they work just fine.

Certainly the easiest is to go back to stock, though it doesn't sound like you saved the stock parts.

I would completely agree that there is little or no benefit to a CAI system on a stock truck. Even on mine with a mild box going from a swiss cheesed airbox with stock filter, to a new CAI didn't change much except the noise level.

BTW, I have the S&B airbox/intake tube and it was well under $300. It does use an oiled filter but one tested to meet manufacturers dust removal specs.

If you want a stock set-up I would bet somebody on the board has one they would sell you.

Airflow improvents DO make a difference on stock fueled trucks!

My truck made an additional 50lbsft more torque with the addition of the AFE intake manifold, this is with a cat back and stge2 filter set up. On an 06 truck with no other mods than the intake manifold there was a 30lbft gain. These gains are not as dramatic as adding fuel, but they do a very good job of improving the torque curve and that translates into a nicer driving rig. 06 stocker dyno
