We have all discussed the emissions equipment on our trucks, but I don't recall anything conclusive about ca emissions package. What's the scoop? Is the timing retarded more than fed trucks? Is it all computer related, or do we have different parts somewhere?

I am quite interested in these facts as well. Lets keep this thread open. I'm curious on how much HP/TQ I'm loosing with the "CA. Regs" vs all other states. I've tinkered with my motorcycle and gained at least 10% on the HP and maintained, if not improved on the gas mileage. I truly wish the people who make these laws would take a class with Gale banks or someone. You got me going on this subject.

I'll do some checking around with some local folks and try to get the skinny. .

I don't have any real facts to help you out... but I did drive a new 2001. 5 HO a few weeks ago out in CA, and I was real disappointed in how the truck performed. It was the only manual shifter they had on the lot so I didn't have anything to compare it too. . Just bought a 2001. 5 for my B-day this week in TX... (Happy B-Day to me... :D hehee. . ) It sure seems to run better than the HO I test drove in CA, but as others have stated, you need to drive them before U buy them, some run better than others. Also have to remember that the HP listed. . is kind of a minimum. . all engines should be at least 235 or 245 Hp... (At least that's how we do it with the tractors, but I think the engines should all be rated about the same. . )

I was told that the CA trucks have an Added EGR system on them, but please don't quote me on that... just what I heard. .

No EGR valve on the 24-valve engine, California or otherwise.

I think if you check that the ECM will have a different part number for California

Thomas, Thanks for Info... I didn't think that the EGR thing sounded right on a diesel, but just what I heard. . Thanks. .

it's all ecm programing. . no hard parts and no different ecm's... a Power Edge EZ will overcome the biggest difference [timming]. . and add extra fueling :D:D a very good thing. .

The best solution is to leave commie-fornia. Dont get me wrong, I simply HATE california. I wonder which is worse, nyc or washington dc or ca?? Couldnt imagine living in any of those places... But they are simply ahead of the time, soon all the USA will be just like them.
