Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) California...KDP Jig and how to get it

I need to do the KDP fix before I put any aftermarket stuff on my truck. I found a lot of info on the KDP Jig and I did searches but I am unclear on how to find out WHO has the CA jig, and how to go about getting it. I clicked on the link for PM'ing the guy who holds it, but it does not work. ANy help would be appreciated, THANKS

I have no idea. I can't even remember how long I have been doing this. I think 100 is high. A few years ago I had a list that was long. Now they just trickle in.

JIG moving East

Got the jig today, and it goes in the mail tomorrow for Roseville. It worked out well, and the tool is very nice, but this is the worst damn truck to work on I've ever had! I have never been able to see and touch any part at the same time except for the valve covers... good thing it doesn't need much attention!

Jig vs Tab

Why pinning versus tabbing? Ease of doing it? How do you know one of the case bolts hasn't loosened up? Not trying to start a war, just curious.

Not sure what you mean by the case bolts loosening up, but for me, removing the fan and drilling a hole seemed far easier than basically removing the entire front of the engine. I think I'm a pretty good, careful mechanic, but nothing ever seems to be as nice and oil-tight as the original factory build, so the less disturbed the better. If the dowel pin was on its way out, the drill bit will hit it and you'll have to do the major surgery anyway. I have read somewhere on TDR where someone coaxed the pin back in using the jig incision, but don't recall where.

The only info I can give you is that I got the kit today in the mail. It has everything in th kit I will need minus a drill. VERY nice kit, and it even has a bag of the special bolts so I do not have to figure out which to go buy!!!

I will be doing my KDP this weekend, then ready to send it to the next person in line whoever that may be. You have to email Danelle to get in line (if there is one). Using the kit costs nothing, just pay for the shipping to the next person.

I have only had my truck a few months but I don't know if anything has been done about the KDP. Any completed pictures and where to look to see if the bolt has been put in? I may need to be put on the list otherwise.

I had actually looked at that site but I was looking for some way to tell without taking anything apart. Can you go out to your truck right now(assuming it's light outside) and see the bolt? If so, can you take a picture so I can look to see if mine has been done that way? Sorry, just trying to figure it all out visually.

The only way to tell for sure if the KDP has been blocked is to take the gear case cover off. If the fix was done with the tab method (best fix) there is no external indication. The jig method does NOT deal with loose gear case screws. If one of them falls out the damage may wreck the engine. That failure is very rare but it does happen. When I did mine the screws were just finger tight. That was also true for a friend's '97. I could have taken the screws out easily with a pair of plyers.

If you want to use the jig kit, youll need to PM Danelle to get on the list, if you want to tab it, i have and extra kit I didn't use that Ill get rid of if someone needs it. If you want to see whats involved in TABBING the dowel pin, look here... . http://www.tstproducts.com/DowelPina.pdf ... after looking at what was involved, I opted to use the jig, much easier.
