2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Caliper pin dust boots

I just installed new front brake pads and rotors the other day. When I installed the caliper pins two of the pin dust boots would not slip back over the head of the pin. The pin has a groove in the head that the pin dust boot lip slips into to keep it sealed. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't massage/manipulate it back on. Anybody have any suggestions. Will it hurt to leave the boots compressed against the pin head or do I need to fix this.
 
Rebuilt calipers have a goo on the pins. I believe it is a silicone base grease. Do not use petroleum based grease.
 
It sounds like your calipers have no grease on the pins, grease will allow the boot lip to slide into the grove and also create a seal preventing moisture from getting in and causing problems.

Use only brake grease, regular grease will cause the rubber to swell & fall apart.

I prefer synthetic silicone because it does not wash out.

I live in the N East and it prevents pins, pads and linkages from rusting and seizing.

It lasts longer than neversieze in these applications.

I also clean the caliper brackets and apply grease where the stainless shims go.

Essentially any contact or sliding points except the pad & rotor surface.

This prevents rust from forming and pinching the pads preventing free movement.

I greased the pins and the shims when installed. I'll try getting a small screwdriver in there and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.
 
Small flat head screwdriver worked great. I was a little worried about damaging the boots but once I got the screwdriver tip under the boot lip it slipped right on. Thanks for the help.
