Okay racers, I have been in contact with Mickey Thompson engineers and I need your help. They are asking to send specific details about the DOT approved drag tires we are looking for.

I told them we need 16” rim, different widths, and sizes like 31”, 33” 35”+. I explained that we have 3:54 and 4:10 gearing and ~3500 RPMS.

What I am asking from you all is specifics in what you want from your tire, give your truck weight, 2wd/4wd launches, gear size, RPMs, let’s keep the rim size 16, give me desired OD, and tread width.

The goal is for us to have an affordable option of drag tires. If you want drag slicks, please input the same information, but specify slicks. If you are reading this and prefer not to post, or do not have posting privileges, email me: -- email address removed --.

I am putting together video and a letter for the engineers and they are going to do what they can with the 16” molds they have now, to keep the cost down. The goal is to sell over 50 sets. Thanks in advance.

JMHO but the DOT drag slicks(ET STREETS) really suck. I went from a good set of 26x10. 50 ET streets to a 26x10 ET DRAG(that are 7 years old mind you) and dropped . 2 off of my 60ft time. I am down in the 1. 5s now :D

A truck as heavy as a 3500 should not driven on the street with those tires anyways due to the wieght

I'd be looking for 2 35x10. 5" ET Streets. On their website all the ET Streets have to run tubes so we'd need tubes of the right size as well.

You can get away without the tubes no problem. But if you do go with tubes be sure and use the MT tubes. A standard tube is not as durable and can get pinched when run at low psi and a good launch.

I have never seen a functional DOT drag tire from MT that was not a soft sidewall tire. They make some "Sportsman Pros" but they are junk as well. I have run almost all of MTs drag tires on my car and the Slick has no comparison. None of them will get you home in the rain so why not go all the way :D

Eric, No Offense to anyone on here but for 3 Years Mickey Thompson have had people call them everyday the Ford Lightning owners have been calling and Begging Mickey Thompson to build us a 28X10. 50X16 or a 12. 5 or even a 13. 5 in the Drag ET series of tires they have told us you have to have a order for 100 Tires paid in full before they will Make them. Granted they make some tires ET Streets with a 16In Rim I have a set but they are 26IN tall which makes my Final Gear Ratio about 4:15 to 1 which is ok but they don't hook worth a hoot. Now they(the Lightning Guys) are switching to a 15IN wheel and Grinding down the Calipers which I think is gonna be our only Option. Its just a thought I am all for it there are trucks Like HVAC's or Yours, Kat's, Steves, everyone's, hell mine for that matter that would benefit from these tires but at 250 Bucks or so a pop and have to have at minimum of 100 Tires that alot of $$$$! Then you gotta have tubes well you dont have too but its a good idea and have them screwed to the wheels and Mickey's tubes are 100 Bucks a piece so the you have $750 in 2 tires and tubes Et streets are nice they work well on the street but they are still a 2 or 4 ply tire not built even for the 4800 my Lightning Weighs let alone a 6500 to 7500 LB Diesel truck. Just My . 02

Bad340 - according to Mickey's website those are soft sidewall tires (wrinkles). The reason I want to run those instead of the slicks is because the classes that I run in require DOT tires, slicks aren't allowed.

Hey E7Mack. That is realy cool that your Beefcake's Brother dang what a small world! Your Bro's truck and mine have almost the exact same parts on them. Mine has a 5LB Pulley, ram air, and chip all From Johnny Lightning. Its all good he maybe faster but there is always gonna be someone faster.

No offense taken!

Mickey tried to give me the "we need 200 tires to make it profitable" speech until I spoke to the engineer, and he told me that they try to deter the folks that are looking for tires for themselves only. He said a video would be helpful and some help with advertising, and I am in a position to do just that. I hope to contact other tire companies as well with the same goal.

Of course if the tires don't test well, then we are safe from having to spend too much money for junk.

If MT decides to help us, well maybe other tire companies will step up to the plate too. We need to start somewhere and I think that we have enough racers out there to do it.

Keep it coming guys, tell all of your racer buds to chime in! The more, the merrier.

Sticky tires....It's about time!

I would like to see any thing in the 235 85/16 size range... I can't go much wider because of the dual rear wheels. My truck is in desperate need of sticky tires in the rear but I want to keep my factory dually wheels. Here is a pic of the truck in action so the M/T guys won't think you are full of it. . LOL

How about Hoosier Racing Tire in South Bend, Indiana? They specialze in stock car racing tires, especially dirt track, but it doesn't hurt to ask them... they're set up for small production runs, that would be a plus.

One more company to add to my list in my thread over in the "General Diesel Topics" Forum... . we are the stepchild of the automotive performance market. The amount of ignorance I see every day, from people or companies, in many different instances, never fails to astonish and disgust me.

Sorry, I digress from the main topic here, this is a thread about drag tires. I want some PHAT ones for my dually... .

I would like a set of 4 33*12. 50 R16 or 33*14. 50 R16's ET streets to play with on the strip. I launch in 4x4 for those who dont know. I would only run them on the strip, so good onroad or offroad preformance isnt nessary. Just a good set of near drag slicks so i can stay way ahead of steve, is all thats needed. My truck is 6400lbs on the strip, I dont know the balance between the front and rear. I think a minimum of 2500# load capicty of the tire is needed. And a top speed faster than 120mph to keep it safe.

Ummm I would suggest that you do NOT put ET streets on the front of your truck.

Have you ever drag raced a vehicle with slicks on it?? The car tends to "walk" in the sidewalls alittle. . sometimes alot depending on the PSI of the tire and the HP of the car. Just as an example I can push my car side to side almost 8-10" due to the soft sidewall of the tire. Thats sitting still... when your moving sometimes it can get interesting :D. IMHO only you would need a tire of radial construction on the front due to the fact that you have to steer. . and the wieght of the front end. I think a set of ET streets or slicks(which are much better) would be fine on the rear in 2wd drive until you get in the 10s. A friend of mine runs 10. 40s on a 26x10 tire in a mustang with a 5 speed with little traction problems.

Hell if I were you i would just keep launching in 4wd on street tires :D

I am sure they will hook up alot better than you think :D. My car only went 11. 60s with some little ET streets... I guess your making some major power lol
