Guys, just wondering about my trans. It shifts kinda sketchy into 3rd gear. And only 3rd. Cant figure out if a synchro is bad or what. When going into 3rd, sometimes it "catches" a bit. Almost a slight grind, you cant hear it just feel it in the shifter handle. Dont know if this is an issue or just drive it?

Maybe just drive it... seeing as how there are not too many people around that know how to rebuild these things.

Why is that? Mine has been paid for since 70,000 miles or so, and @ 300,000 miles I figure I'm about halfway to where I'll retire it ... ... ... ..... I'm sure I'll need transmission work done before 600,000 miles.

That "catch" between 2nd and 3rd - and sometimes from 3rd to 4th - is pretty common, but usually primarily with a cold transmission. Usually it goes away quite quickly as the transmission lube warms up a bit. The primary "cure" is to shift a bit more slowly, allowing the transmission syncros enough time to do their job of slowing all that rotating mass for a smoother shift. Some owners have tried other transmission lubes with varying success - what sometimes works best for one owner is a disaster for another - I have not had unusual problems with mine - and HAVE tried a couple of "miracle substitute" lubes, but got the disastrous results mentioned earlier, so returned to the OEM stuff, which was by far the best in my specific 5600... ;):D

I would change the fluid and upgrade to 2nd gen style hydraulics... . (southbend clutch sells the upgrade).
