Price gouging!

Ford Engine Options

I was flipping through some kind of sport truck magazine today. Found an article on a 99 PSD Excursion that was tuned by diesel Dynamics that really caught my eye. The list of mods included exhaust a DD computer module, autometer guages, a set of tru torque Injectos and a TWEAKED THROTTLE BODY?? Just a guess but I assume the PSDs throttle body is right next to the distributor?? lol And with these few mods that PSD cranked 400hp to the ground. Not in anyways ragging the PSD here but is 400hp gonna happen without Propane??? And to top it all off the Decked out Excursion was capable of a 12. 8 1/4 mile time??? I gotta call BS on that whole deal. I have no idea what an excursion wieghs but it wouldn't be light even if chevy made it. Any thoughts on this??

EDIT

Found the mag article on the web. Its in the July 01 issue of Truckin. A very SWEET excursion with some questionable power here it is

Sweet Excursion

The magazine is very clearly full of it. 12. 8 at 138 mph??? Ummm... . not on 400 hp to the ground. HVAC's truck on full drugs makes a lot more than that and is running in the 110-115 mph range. 138 mph is 10-second territory.

IF that was the case, that'd be the fastest diesel on the planet, I do believe.

I agree. . total BS.

Yes I believe the 400hp on diesel fuel claim. Lawrence doesn't believe in drugs, and he has 24v R&D trucks that make over 600hp on diesel only. But I don't believe the 12. 8 1/4 mile time. It would take alot more than 400hp in a 7500 lb truck to get that time.

I calculated the HP needed to get a thing down the quarter mile in that time and came up with 408 HP if it weighed 6800 pounds.

Not being a 4 wheel drive I thought this was close.

Not too far off huh?

That beast has got to have at least 1000 lbs of stereo in it. I have no idea what one of those things weighs. It also has nothing done to the transmission but a shift kit. Cobrajet? Any thoughts on this one?

A 4x2 Excursion? I didn't know there was such an animal.

I have heard that a 4x4 Excursion with PSD weighs about 8000lbs maybe a little over that.

Right you are Jim!

The PowerShop completed such an upgrade (DD injectors/DD Therminator on a PSD equipped Crew Cab Super Duty) recently and had it dynoed afterwards. High Performance air filtration and a 4" dia. exhaust system were previously installed. The results... 352 BHP.:confused::confused::confused: "Where's the beef?" Evan yawned when he told me about that. Evan's H. O. equipped '01 with early DD Stage IIIs and an Edge EZ would easily eclipse that figure (clutch willing, right Ev?). Additionally, DD injectors and a Therminator for a PSD are BIG buck$ whereas, a set of DD Stage IIIs are only 7 bills plus another 5 bills (+/-) for an EZ.

Yup! A friend of mine at work just purchased one (4x2 PSD equipped Excursion). I have to admit that's one sweet ride!

I bet he squeezed that extra 50 ponies out of the tweaked throttle body lol. I guess there is some kind of throttle blade conversion out there for the PSD lol.

Just FYI, I found a test of a 2002 Corvette Z06, rated at 405 hp. It's 1/4 mile time is 12. 45 at 118 mph. I emailed them asking about the throttle body on this PSD and how a truck that probably weigh twice what a vette does, could be faster than one.

I'm pushing close to 400 hp in my firebird ( My Truck ) and am in the low 13,s with a 4000 pound car... definitaly B. S.

Total, complete, absolute BS.

No question about it... The time of 12. 8 doesn't sound right, but theoretically it is possible: With 400hp to the wheels, and an ET of 12. 8, it would need a 60ft time of close to 1. 4 seconds (assuming it weighs somewhere around 8000lbs), not to mention some ladder bars, slicks, a spooled rearend and a one helluva high stall converter. That just ain't gonna happen folks. Sorry.

Now, just for fun, lets assume it did pull a mid-1 second 60ft... Here is where the BS flag is raised: The speed they listed is simply obnoxious. Who would allow crap of this magnitude to be printed??? With a 60ft like that, and only 400rwhp, it's trap speed would be waaaay down to around 80-85mph.

I recently sold my '98 Camaro SS with a 6spd, and it was mildly modified, putting out 328rwhp and 349rwtq. My average traps in that car were in the 109-113mph range, with 60ft's between 1. 95-2. 15 seconds (on street tires), and a raceweight of 3545lbs with me in it... Ponder this a moment.

Does it sound right that a vehicle with only 70rwhp more, but weighing over twice as much, would result in a trap speed of 20+mph faster than that Camaro? Indeed I think we have dug up ourselves a liar:D

man this one made me mad, I have been talking with Christian Hazel(4wheel writer) about doing another photo shoot and article on my truck, after they supposedly lost my past shoot photos they did on my truck. That excursion wieghed 7400 lbs and ran 12. 8 at 138mph!!!!!!!!!! with 400 hp. That is total bs. Maybo off a cliff. :)

if you do the math for my best run of 12. 67 with a weight of 6300lbs its 612hp. If you do it by 104. 66mph its still 568hp. I'm glad the mags are finally giving some credit to diesels but I hope they do it truthfully.
