I have the plow package, & I saw no sag.

I however do not have a winch installed.

It may sag a little with a winch, however I'll be thinking of a leveling kit by that time.

I'll letcha know as soon as mine is mounted. I also have the plow pkg and I'll do measurements before and after... I'll post on this thread as soon as I have both.

Before will be stock with snow plow pkg. After will be DOR bumper with 12k winch mounted.



Any recommended measurement points (just don't say bumper to ground ) since bumper's the part getting ousted. How about top of fenderwell to ground?

Last January give or take, I spoke to Layne about getting the bumper without being set up for a winch. Nadda at that time. I believe he sells in black or anodized finish only.

I see no sag and even with the winch you are still much lighter than a reunel. We will find out tomorrow if mine sags with the warn 12k in it. I do not have the plow package on this truck. It came with the 039/046 spring combo.

They come unfinished, black coated (talk to layne about what it is) or brushed aluminum.

I went to see Layne today @ his shop. He is a way nice guy and he does really nice work. He does it in black or polished. Let me tell you, the polished ones look NICE!!! Hopefully I'll win the lottery and buy one!



As far as sag, don't worry about it. Layne was working on one when I walking and he just picked it up with one hand and moved it around.

How do they affect the airbags? Will it change any safety aspect of the original design?

Seems to me that Aluminium would be happy to bend if someone hit you head-on so I can't see it affecting the airbag that much. Just seems that way to me so I could be wrong. Besides, if someone was coming head-on to you with one of those bumpers, I think they swerve!!

Air bags

The air bag switch is inertial, meaning that it registers extreme deceleration. What kind of bumper should not matter as long as the wiring is not damaged.



I haven't looked on our trucks but the switch is usually yellow and the wiring is covered by a nylon sheathing and is usuallymarked witha warning tag.



FYI do not probe the wires. Improper handling and equipment can get dangerous/expensive!!!

On my '97, the airbag switch was mounted behind the headlights. If you pop the hood and look down right behind the light assembly, you'll see a triangular looking thing; that's the airbag switch. Dunno where it is on my 98. 5.

Hello all



I dont have a DOR but a similar PROZAP, though it is not deer-tested yet. It is a little cheaper than a DOR, but heavier as well. Only deer hit hard so far was with stock bumper, only doing about 40 mph but 2800 or so damage, took out intercooler, air conditioner exchanger, and of course stock bumper. You would have to hit something hard enough to bend the frame to push the winch into the coolers on the front end, if you had a heavy bumper.

But if I did it over I would look at the DOR, a brushed aluminum finish looks good!

Final Word

OK... ... . It's installed and I have the final word on the threads questions... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .....

I went to Layne's today and finally got my Denver Off-Road (DOR)) bumper installed. Two hours there, two hours install, two hours back. Easy work day.



The truck measured 40. 5" from ground to bottom of fender measured centered on the hub cap. (so straight from ground up outside of tire to bottom of fender. Second measurement was from ground to frame bracket. Both points show a drop of . 25 to . 5"!!!!!!!! PERFECT! That's with full bumper/brush guards/12000lb winch installed.

But why the difference between . 25 and . 5 you say?? That's based on where the shocks/springs stop the bounce. We took couple jumps on the bumper and when the bounce (ok, not much bounce, maybe wiggle up/down is a better description) settled that's the difference.

I'm sure that over time it will droop and stuff but for a good before/after comparison this'll work for most practical applications.

Impressions on product

Two thumbs up! This bumper is not your average after-market add-on. Layne obviously takes great care with each and every one of his 'babies'. The amount of work for each one is ALOT and it shows. I have a feeling that I'm getting the 'finished product' after several years worth of engineering and trial/error evolution. The fact that the install was a simple unbolt and bolt up application was great!!! Someone like me would've had mis-aligned holes, improper clearance, 'something just doesn't look right,..... etc.

If your thinking the aluminum isn't strong you aren't thinking thick enough. This thing is S-T-R-O-N-G! and the weight is a fraction of the steel stuff.

After alot of research this product is the what I decided was best for me and my application. I'd recommend anyone in the market for one do their looking and decide for themselves. After seeing first-hand the product/person/install I'd recommend the DOR bumper. Check out Earthroamer.com for another persons comments on them also. There are a minimum of two outspoken people who like them.

Hey Kevin,



The install was smooth. We did it later that night at Heyboss' place. Batman and Bigdaddy went to town on the wiring, massdiesel was in the background heckling and Jeff and I rounded off the group. The install was very easy. We drilled out the holes to fit the larger bolts for the 12k. The mount lined up perfectly and the only difficulty that we encountered was the wiring box hit the top of the bumper and that winch is really tight. The fit is not a problem but makes the install a little more interesting. Having a bunch of guys that know more than me sure made it easy. The coolest thing was that when we reinstalled the bumper and bolted it up everything was lined up perfectly and the clearance between the bumper and head lights increased. I am very happy.

When I put my 12k Warn winch and the Transformer mount w/grillquard It dropped the front end . (About 275 lbs + stcock bumper). I think I put the 33" tires on before the lift kit . (No snow plow springs ).

I put a 2' lift on . I thought it was a little high , so I put a 1" lift kit on. I liked it better . We put a 300 lb friend of mine standing on the front end , and it did not drop anymore . But I decided to go with a DORB to get some of the extra weight off the front axle . With the club cab I am just a little too close to maxed out on the weight. Can't wait to finally get that new bumper.

( I would have lived with the Warn bumper , till I tried to put a hi-lift jack under it and lift it . No -go , I decided that it needed a new bumper. Layne says his can jack up the truck with a hi-lift and not break the winch Oo. )
