okay so I have been toying along time now for next major upgrade. I like the idea of doing a cam probley helix2. if I do this and put some better springs in it. with my set up what can be expected. little more hp. better mpg. quicker spool. would it bring power in earlier on bottom end.

other idea is to do this but also go with rips twins set up. now. I dont tow heavy at most 5k but this is my daily driver. so is twins kinda over kill for my needs. I see a cam probley doing more benefit than anything else right now. I dont want to spend a huge chunk on twins and not really get the benies due to not towing heavy or drag race etc. etc. can you give me your thoughts for those who have a cam and close to what I have on my truck.

I love my helix 2, really woke up bottom end. Spools turbo sooner and harder, little less smoke. Maybe it picked up a little mileage, seems like it but the truck is more fun to drive. Know what I mean. I also have ordered F1 springs, once installed want to see if it will pull higher RPM's with Smarty/TSTCOMP stack. Also both Helix2 cam and F1 springs are on sale now.

My Haisley street cam is a very similar grind to the Helix 2. What I noticed most is the quicker spool... . & it wasn't bad before the install. It reduced smoke under heavy load too.

The cam allowes more air into the notor, power comes from more fuel. Of course you need sufficent air to burn that fuel & that is what the cam can help provide. The extra air also helps cool the egt's.

Back when they were around, Diesel Dynamics had a before and after dyno graph of their cam. If I'm remembering correctly, there wasn't any increase in the tq or hp. It just looked like the graph was shifted to the left 100rpm or so. So no real power gains, but the truck will feel stronger on the bottom end.

It sort of makes the turbo "feel" like a size smaller (responsiveness-wise), but it'll cool the egts like a size larger. Not a huge difference, but it helps.

engine sound with cam

just wondering with a cam what sort of diff sound will the engine and exhaust sound like. anyone with a sound clip that would be cool.

I purchased mine about 2 months ago from performance diesel warhouse for under the 500 dollar mark with all of the hardware so you may check them out.
