Cam Plate Position

Anyone using a 2000up 190' thermostat in a 98-99?

This weekend I pulled my truck in the garage to install all of the goodies that Santa brought me. Installed the gauges and Cd player with no problems. The next step is a new TST #6 and boost elbow. That's when I discovered that the wastegate is disconnected and the stock plate has been moved all of the way foward. I'm going to install the elbow and reconnect the wastegate but, I'm not sure how to position the new cam plate. I'd call TST but I have to get the truck back together today and I still have governer springs and transmission goodies to install. The truck is a 95 2500 Auto 4WD



Does anyone know what the boost pressures would have been with the wastegate disconnected and could that have caused any damage?



How should I position the new cam plate? I was thinking in the middle.



Does anyone know how power is generated from moving the stock plater all the way foward with the wastegate disconnected? (Any chance that I'll have less power than before?)
 
I have the measurements from my plate in the stock position.

It was 0. 292" from the rear of the flat portion of the camplate to the rear face of the AFC housing. My truck is a 97 5sp though, but hopefully that will get you started.



One of my friends ran there truck that way for a while and experienced no problems. I really doubt you have anything to worry about.



I am not familar with the automatic trucks, but the TST plates generally give you a better powerband than the stock ones. It should be stronger, but if not slide it forward some. If everything else is OK of course.

DR I wouldn't sweat the stock plate stuff just get rid of it, put the TST in the middle reconnect the wastegate put the boost elbow in and have fun, watch the EGT's and slide the plate accordingly, Also when you install the Gov springs you will get more EGT as it approaches fuel shut off and they will come up in a hurry. I once slid my plate all the way forward and the EGT's would peg 1400 before the top of 3rd unlocked, When, I repeat, When I get the DTT stuff done I will play with it more but I can't or let's say the converter can't handle what I have now. The way DTT is set up it uses a gear then goes to the next one in the T/Q band and doesn't stay at 2800 like the stock crap till lockup, that's were the EGT's become a problem, at anything below that there actually too low and needs more plate. With your setup(I think you have the 230/605 plate) you should get 28lbs of boost, with mine the way it is(non-wastegated housing) it will make a max of 32 lbs(28 plate, 30 gov springs, 32 housing). Have fun on the install and let us now how things workout.

Almost all plates are close to centered from the factory--maybe up to 0. 006" forward. The 215 hp pump plates may come as much as 0. 025-0. 030" forward of centered. That is still 0. 090" to 0. 095" back from fully forward. Put the TSt plate in the center to start with. Also if you are real careful you may see munch marks on the top of the stock plate from the lock washers that will help you verify the original position before that plate was moved forward. The entire TST plate is hardened and you won't see marks on it, but the bosch plate does not have a hard top part.
