I looking at buying the Helix 3 cam for my truck but i was wondering if its worth the prise and if it is much better than a PDR or a schieds cam. I know that i need new valve springs but would you just put springs on or wqould you go all the was with the titan valve keepers.

I am completely biased as I have one of Don's cams.

Are you going for full on racing or massive power? If not, you may not need the Helix 3.

I can't say if it is a better product than the others listed. But it sure works great! Don does start with a new blank and machines it from there. So, you'll have to decide if a regrind is acceptable in your application.

Obviously, with that cam you will need the valve springs. Titanium retianers are nice for a weight reduction, but as heavy as the valve train is, I don't know how much it will help. They should be stronger as well.

Dave, just a FYI. PDR has new and reground cams available. All new cams are chilled hardened & induction hardened, all have a lift pump lobe, they have been improved in the area where cams are known to break. Don is not giving out cam spec's, & I can't say I blame him, but please stop posting that all of us will need to hand out spec's because Don does, because he is not. Although it is still a cast cam, I tell people not to run them over 4200 rpm's, Scheids, Haisley's, etc have been running them at 5000+ rpm's and have not broken one yet.

Sorry Piers, I didn't realize I mentioned the specs.

Thanks for setting me straight on the new blank availability as well.

BTW, I know at least one guy that has the cam specs! :D

yeah, but what do you guys know?... . you've only been doing this twice as long as F1 :D

i have been lookin at the helix 3 too, but i am all for massive horsepower too though. can't wait to see where this discussion goes

I think that i am going with the helix 3 or a custom ground cam. I also want to run a marine gasket for a little decompression

I would do a custom peice , if u get a regrind i would ask what all is done is it just a basic cut or is the lobes welded then reground ? if u want a custom billet cam PM me

Piers's cams only make a little power..... read my signature.

Piers, that thing I'm doing on that deal might take longer because of my work schedule... ... FYI!

Does a billet cam require special tappets? I had heard they were especially hard on the tappets?
