Value of Engine parts?

What tools are you talking about? I made a set of wooden dowels to hold the tappets up and the rest was normal hand tools.

I think he's talking about the tray for the cam bore and the string ect.

The tray could be made out of a piece of aluminum tubing, exhaust tubing or a piece of PVC. You'll need to cap the back end, but that should be easy. You should only need the tray if you plan on changing tappets.

If you are changing tappets, you'll need a small rubber plug that will fit into the tappet bore. This should be something that will be tight. And some braided nylon line will work fine as well. Also, you'll need a long dowel rod that can reach the back of the engine from the fron. Also, it'll need a hook on the end. A cup hook or similar will work fine.

Dowels as stated are required.

That's about it.

Thanks.

I will be gathering up some parts this weekend.

Yes, I will be changing tappets.

Take a tappet with you to the hardware stoe and get a plug that will fit tight and push in almost as deep as the bore. It has to be a smaller diameter than the outside of the tappet. Otherwise, you'll never get it through the bore. Also, get a small washer to keep from pulling the knotted string through the rubber plug.

The Cummins aluminum tray is a nice piece and really works well. See if you can borrow someones kit.

The dowels are slightly tapered on the very end. Almost just the ends knocked off or beveled. Cut a very thin slit in the wood dowel about an inch up from the end in the center. And when you push the dowels in, push them in some more. Don't ask how I know.

In order to "fish" the plug and line through the head and into the cam bore, use a short piece of coat hanger. Push the hanger into the rubber and it'll help you guide it right in. Then you can get the plug against the side of the bore and pull the hanger out. I put a full loop on the top of the hanger end so there was no way it could fall through the head if I dropped it. Also, makes hanging on easier.

An extendable mangent makes short work of pulling the tappet to the front of the motor along the tray.

Not a hard job. Just time consuming. Oh, if you drop a tappet in the motor, you can get to it without jacking up the motor. Hopefully, you won't have to find out.

Don M stage 2 w/pro/sportsman valve springs.
Steppen it up a notch Oo. As long as you don't do any other mods at the same time it would be neat to compare the change from your current cam.

Nothing... It is still in the motor as we speak but it is coming out probably this week or so and a Don M H2 is going in.

This H2 is visibly more aggressive of course it is made from a blank to start with.

Trying to get the truck ready for this year... .

What new charger? If you find a cam change set let me know. We have 3 cam changes do do in about the next 2 months. I have a ton of stuff to do to my truck before the 27th. :)
