Using pencil and paper it has been slowly improving from 12. 5 to 14. Avg is about 13 but I only have 1600 miles on it so far. Trying to keep it around 65 mph. (3. 73 gears) Learning that a dually catches more air. Weight of the truck is same as my previous 98. 5 2500(it had 19. 5 tires/wheels/winch/grill guard/chip, etc & 3. 53 axle =8000#) Have only run the new one unloaded so far. Just got the Torklifts and have not installed them yet. Too cold here to crawl under it. I am going to wait for warmer days. Thanks. Ken

Mileage will improve with time. My 05 improved until I had about 20K miles on the clock. Guess that's how long it takes to break in a CTD.

By the way, the best way to break in that new truck is to load the camper on and make an 11K mile round trip to Alaska. That's what I did with my 95 and my 05.

Can someone explain why my '07 2500 SLT quad cab 4X4 short box w/ bench seat is not recommended for a truck camper, while the identical unit with bucket seat is? Can Dodge be figuring that the weight of an additional passenger may overload the truck?

Sir

Check out the Dodge builders web site which Jim W sent me on the 1st page of this thread I started with that very question. He sent me the link on 1/23. I printed it out and looked up my truck and read throught the whole thing. I have no concerns about mine now. It has some very interesting info about all this.

Ken, I got the info from the Builders Guide - thanks Jim for the links. Upon further investigation I see it's all based on the gross weight of the vehicle, passengers included.
Thanks, Bill

I just bought a used Lance Squire 3000 and put it in my 06 dually, happy-jac system for tie downs. Drove it home 300miles, never moved, very slight sway thru construction areas. I have 25# in the air bags and all seems well! except that the place that wired the plug, 3 wires, did not get it right! Now i gotta pull camper off and wire it correct myself! I called and told them I was not happy, they said bring it back! Yeah right.

That stinks when someone does something wrong and you're 300 miles away. Had that happen to me when I bought a new Lance Legend 11' 3" camper in 98 from a new Lance dealer in St. George, Utah. After I got it home I found that they not only wired it wrong, they installed the wrong battery and installed the Happijac tie down wrong. I had an RV shop in Albuquerque fix all that and I sent a bill to the St. George dealer. Much to my surprise, they paid it.

By the way I never had air bags, nor did I need them. The 95 Dodge and camper never swayed and didn't squat too much. The 05 handled the camper even better.
