I just bought an 01 3500 extended cab and I was wondering if they came equiped with a wiring harness for a camper connection. Or . Is there a connector in the existing harness so I can plug a camper harness into it.

Also I would like to know about any particular camper tie down packages that are best suited for this truck. or again anything stock that I should purchase.

Thanks

Rick

I personally like the Torklift tiedowns. I recently installed a set for my wife's cousin on his 3500. eBay is a good place to purchase them.

Some campers (Lance) use a 6 pin plug. I changed the 6 pin for a 7 pin and plug into the 7 pin in the bed.

I had an 11' 3" Lance on a 05 Dodge DRW with the HappiJack tie downs that came with the cab-over-camper, I also had something that I think is very important, a full bed rubber mat between the bed and the camper.

Is your truck equipped with a trailer tow package? If not, you won't have anywhere to plug into. You can always run the necessary wiring to the bed to install a plug-in-outlet or you can have one installed at an RV shop.

Ditto on the rubber mat. It really holds thing tight. I also have the Happy Jacks system and am well pleased with it. .

What make of camper are you looking at?

2002 , I have a trailer package, came with 7 pin and 4 pin plugs at rear,
I chose to wire into the harness on the frame at the front of the bed... .

Your asking about tie downs ( truck camper I assume ):
I used home made belly bars, rear attached to trailer tow hitch frame.
Front bolted to existing holes in the frame...

Belly bars and chains/trunbuckles, total cost less than 100.
And I prefer the belly bar set up for back road driving, even though I loss a little clearence,,, If you have any interest, I could send some pics via
email, ( pics to big for PM ).
Good luck, happy camping
