Camper Tie Downs

I just replace my 94' 2500 4x4 with the 06' 3500 quad cab dually 4x4 Oo. . I bought the 06' for 2 reasons..... 1st I have a Lance 1061 camper that I was carrying with the 94'... 2ND, I got divorce in 05' and there was no one to tell I couldn't have it... LOL. :-laf



To tie the camper down to the 94' I buy Torklift frame mounted tie downs. I want to try and reuse this tie down on the 06'. New one run about $500. 00, trying to save same money here. The rear mounts well swap over just fine, it the front one I'm looking for a little advise on. Seeing that the 06' frame is completely box, its going to be a heck of a time to fish bolts and nuts through the frame. What is your guys thought on just going ahead and welding the mounts to the frame? I'm going to have to modify the mount a little anyways. If you folks have any other suggestions, that would be great too.

Could you please verify with proof that drilling ANY hole in the frame will void your warranty? I don't believe your statement was correct.

you know I've been looking for a deal on front tork lift mounts, if you decide you need to replace them I'd like a shot at the old ones!



From what I've read these new hydroformed frames are touchy, drilling or welding on them is not recommended. Does Troklift have an application for the new frame styles?



I've been wanting their fast gun tie downs as well, my happijac's are getting to be a real pain.

There was a TSB brought out on this after the 3rd gens came out. You an drill in the frame but there are places you can not drill (not close to the sides), and it talke about putting a spaces inside holes so you don't crush the frame. I can't open any more browsers right now but if you search TDR for FRAME TSB or something like that or even just TSB and look up the one about the frame.

I think it would be best to sell your old ones and spend a few $$$ on new ones made for your truck. I was having mine installed at their shop when they were fabbing up new ones for an 05. The ones for the 3rd gen are strictly bolt up so as to not affect your warranty. They do good work there and I would only want to use the ones made for my application. I would almost certainly say if you weld on the frame you will definately have warranty issues. Give them a call and get a quote. Saving a few $$$ trying to reuse what you have is probably not worth the loss of value to your truck.

Went through an identical situation myself selling my 94 2500 to get the 04 3500. The tie downs are different, and so I gave the old tie downs away on the pay it forward section here and got new ones. The new ones installed easily to the frame with a bolt fishing tool that was included with the set.



I would recommend using blue locktite on all the bolts.



I would not drill or weld to the frame to save on the cost of the new tie downs on your new truck.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll most like just go and order the right ones. I've waited a long time for this truck, don't want to void anything yet. Keep an eye out for me, I know I'm going to have alot more posts about my Dodges.
