My wife and I are interested in possibly buying a membership to Thousand Trails. I don't want to buy it directly from Thousand Trails and pay full price. I have been watching on ebay and looking online. Here are my questions: what are the important things to look for when getting one of these memberships? Also, does anyone know of any membership brokers that have TT for sale? What is a reasonable price that I should expect to pay?

Thanks.

I have a ownership in R-ranch up in the Red Bluff area of Norther California that I'm trying to GIVE away to anyone interested - can't use it since we've moved to Eastern Oregon. But that would only be of interest to someone located close enough to get there reasonably easily.

The scattered campground memberships can be great for those who travel a great deal - or want to - and the smaller ones without length-of-stay limitations are great for those not wanting to have to travel outside some imaginary boundry line before they can use a park.

There are a number of Internet CG membership resellers active - try a search and see if any can help you.

1000 trails Alliance has 50 days free camping then you pay $5 to $8 per night

(free to $750)

1000 trails 14 in 7 out stay 14 days go to different tt campground for at least 7 days then go back if you want. Set reservations 90 days in advance, camp all year round for free. Kids can use with your card and permission letter.

($750 to $1500)

1000 trails 21 in 7 out, set reservations 120 days in advance, same as above different days in. Kids can use with their own card same time as you.

($2000 to $3500)

There are literally thousands of different contracts out there. Be sure to get one that can be sold again. Be aware that there are 4 or 5 national regions, you want a membership that has them all. About 56 campgrounds.

The campground membership should be labeled Thousand trails-Naco-Leasure time.

Thanks Tom for that info, you really cleard up some of my confusion. I hoping to find a Thousand Trails membership that is inexpensive and can supplement my existing Coast to Coast and Colorado River Adventure Memberships.

Tom is right... . I've just found one... . but haven't purchased it yet... . the price is 2200 and is the 21 days in 7 days out..... the annual maintance fee jumps to 549. 00, their current rate and will freeze when I'm 59... ... the current owner is paying 239. 00 for the annual fee... . BTW the 2200 includes the transfer fee... . It's a TT, Naco, Leasure time pass.....

Tom, can you tell me if I'm getting a good deal..... it seems like I've got to fill out a 5 page form from TT..... But at this time I don't know much about what this would just cost if I called TT's..... they want me to go to park and go through the tour and pitch. .

Any other input would be nice... ... .

Something else to look at is how can you end the contract. Some you have to sell or will to someone, others (like mine) I can just walk away if I want. The 14 in, 7 our rule has other little things like if you stay 3 days in, you got to be out 3 days, 4 in, 4 out, all the way up to 7 in, 7 out.

Stay only 2 days and you can move on to the next TT campground. In the last couple years TT has gone through some changes. First they sold the company to an invenstment company, who turned around and sold all the land to another company with a 20 year lease, then they sold the campground membership part to another company this winter.

Other things to look out for, "high use" preserves. They have even different rules like allowing only 2 reservations on the books, only one major holiday on the books, in for the weekend, out for 14 days, etc.

As others have pointed out, there are thousands of different memberships. The one that I got a kick out of is the newer one where I can buy a shadow membership for my kids or parents. Great! problem is both campers can't be in the same campground at the same time.

Out here on the Right coast, the campgrounds are over 4 hours apart. I live Near the hershey preserve. Its so over sold you need reservations exactly 90 days in advance for holidays. I already have my reservations all the way through laborday, but I bet I could not get in there this month if I tried to get reservations now. one nice thing TT has been doing here is leasing campsites off of Outdoor world. We have sites at 3 different outdoor worlds we can book now. Might have to give one a try later in July.

There is a group on Yahoo about Thousandtrails. If you join Yahoo groups, then search on the name you will find it. You have to join before you can read/post I think. Lots of good information, as well as people complaining they did not get what they expected.

all said and done, we enjoy it, Hershey is a beautiful place (all though we have been to others that are just like old crowded campgrounds) We are still young so we hope it stays around a while. We stay around 25 nights per year in TT so we are getting our money out of it every year. (there are 200 campgrounds within 2 hours of our house, and all of them are $75-$125 for a weekend).

we still go other places like the Outerbanks that are "pay" campgrounds. this year we will spend 15 nights there, plus 25 in TT, Not bad for a couple that works full time with a 13 year old kid.

We bought our TT membership a couple of years ago after staying in one of the local preserves for the weekend. After listening to the sales pitch we decided it was way to pricey for us, about 8K for the nationwide membership. As we were leaving we stopped in at the sales office to say thanks and the sales guy said that he just received a Gold Alliance resale membership that we could have for $2500. I bought it on the spot. Our dues are about $550. 00 per year and we have 120 day reservations in Naco and Thousand Trails and 90 in Leisure Time. We generally stay in the preserves about 30 - 35 days a year. My in-laws have been members since it was Camp out West and having two preserves within an hour of our home is great for weekend get a ways. We are heading to Seaside Oregon in July for 10 days and then on to Bend/Sunriver for 10 days.

The Yahoo group for TT members is mostly full of folks *****ing about something. I belong just to get info on different preserves, It is rare to post a question without someone hopping on thier soapbox.

Dave... . I'm already a member of yahoo groups with another board... could you give me the link to the TT sight please... I'd like to read the post...

BTW - I started the ball rolling today... . but the guy I was dealing with wanted to express mail the stuff to me to sign... I told him not to bother to express mail... I was heading out of town for 10 days... and would look at it on my return... he acted like I'd popped his bubble... . whated to next day air the stuff to me... . I said nope... . so I'm heading to the beach... going to go by one of the spots and take the tour... haven't been in this one in 20 years or so... so it will be nice to see how they have kept it up... . who knows what I'm going to find... .

Jim,

Up in your neck of the woods they have Little Diamond preserve, I haven't been there but my in laws have and they said it was very nice. We have been to LaConner which is fantastic, Leavenworth which is older and has mostly small sites. Blaine and Mt Vernon are both nice as well.

I think living where you live you will get a lot out of TT.
