4X4 5er help needed

5th wheel trouble

We leave in 2 weeks.

I have no plans other than fishing and seeing the sights.

My only must go place is called Laird Park.

It caters to dirt bikes an such. Junior and I will be bringing our green stickered 4 strokes.

Do any of you have a special campground that I need to visit that you will share with us ?

I prefer out of the way forrest service campgrounds but an occasional rv park is ok too if it's not huge. .

Let me hear your thoughts.

Thanks Oo.

I shot a nice buck out of Salmon Id about 20 yrs ago. What beatiful country. We camped north of the north fork of the Salmon river. Going north out of Salmon you will come to a little town called North Fork. Turn left(west) on go about 15 miles to a Forest Service station(helipad) turn north. Go about 10 miles and you will be the the best riding country you will ever see!! If uncle sam hasnt closed all the roads

Boy, if you can head over to Stanley, Id, you'll love it. Stanley is in the Sawtooth Nat'l Rec. Area. Beautiful mountains.

Stanley is in S central Id, on Hwy 75, NE of Boise.

When I saw Idaho I immediately thought of the Sawtooth rec area, I can't wait for my next oportunity to go there.

If I looked it up right, Laird Park is near the small town of Potlatch. If you continue on and go to St. Maries, then head up the St. Joe river to Calder or Avery there are several campgrounds along the road (Huckleberry Campground is good). Great camping and hundreds of miles of USFS roads to ride, as well as a river to fish - just be sure where you are because different sections of the river have different requirements (barbless hooks, no bait, etc. ). Also, by Clarkia there is a motocross track that you can ride.

Another place would be just north of Boise - Idaho City has 100's of miles of trails to ride, but not much in the way of fishing and only a few campgrounds. They are usuallly full on the weekends since it is so close to Boise.

Yet another option would be just outside of Coeur d'Alene. There is an old airstrip called Horsehaven. It isn't used, and there aren't really any campgrounds (lots of places to setup a tent or trailer. Very popular area for motorcycles (lots of trails and roads). There is a creek that runs through there, but I don't know how good of fishing it is.

As someone mentioned Priest Lake, it is extremely beautiful (especially if you have a boat), but there is not much in the way of trail riding. There are a few forest service roads that you could ride, especially on the northwest side of the lake.

Either way you will have a great time.

Man I am getting great places from you guys.

You bet I am going to check out Avery and the St Joe river. St Maries is on my list also. I am 4 years away from moving to Idaho so this trip starts the search for our next home town. .

I have a whole month off so time is on my side.

Then down to Kuna to visit an old High school buddy and do some water sking.

Any other places pop into your brain I am writing them down.

Thanks again for the replys.

From Kuna, a day trip for riding up to Idaho City or south of the Snake River to Hemmingway Butte (a BLM riding area) would be a good ride.

If you have a rig for large fish, you could hit the Snake River just south of Kuna below Swan Falls dam and try to get a 7' Sturgeon (catch & release only).
