Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Camshaft position sensor

Well threw a code yesterday... I read alot of the posts yesterday and I was scared then i read about how hard it was to change it out. Well alll you need is a 12" 3/8 etension and the allen head adapter. I was able to change it out in about 10 minutes. Used a magnet to get to bolt back in and used my finger to hold it until I was ble to get the socket back on it . most of this was done from below. My hands are large and I was able to get to is from the bottom. Youhave to take out the fender liner but it was worth the time. hope this Help.

Do you remember what size the allen head was?

I am sorry I don't remember. I just went to autozone and bought a cheap set. Wish I could help more.

I bought a ball headed allen wrench and smapped off the tip at about a 1/2 inch length. I then inserted it into a 1/4 drive socket. It would work even better with a universal and an extension, but, I didn't have a universal and wasn't going to drive 10 miles to the store again. It worked pretty well. Only took another hour. I think one could combine all these things and make short work of it.



I went out and checked my tool box for it to get the size... it wasn't there. Imagine my enthusiasm. Anyhow, I think it was 8mm. That just seems to be stuck in my head.

8mm is the same as 5 1/16". Might be a bit large.

Mine turned out to be 5mm. Got it replaced. Getting screw back in and started was a pain. Used a 12" extension with a universal joint. Had to tape the u-joint to keep it straight and bend on slightly to put screw in straight. Had to use a mirror to see sensor to get screw back in. Reset code and seems to be good now. Haven't driven it far enough to get it well warmed up.
