Off Roading Fenders/ Lifts

Just purchased a Scheid billet cam. Was told that timing for this cam is 99. 5 degrees cam lobe center. I have never timed a cam using this method before. Does anyone out there know what the proper procedure for doing this is?

Use to use cam centerline method on gas motors,I believe diesel would be the same. First you,ll need a degree wheel. Find TDC on #1 cyl (on gas motor this can be done with a stop screwed in sparkplug hole, all though I prefer an indicator on piston with head off),fashion some kinder pointer (coat hanger works fine) and set at zero on wheel. Next mount an indicator on # cyl intake rocker or lifter which ever is accessable. Turn engine over and set ind to zero at max lift, now continue to turn and stop at say . 050 before full lift (# is not important just use the same before an after TDC) and record reading on wheel. Then continue turning (same direction) until . 050 after max lift(or what ever # you used before),record # on wheel. Add two readings and divide by two and thats your cam centerline, then adjust accordingly. This was usually done with offset bushing or key. Honestly for most applications just lining up dots on cam and crank got you within 1 or 2 degrees. Hope that helps.
