Is it possible to make a 160hp pump perform as good as or better than a 215hp pump?

Will 191 or 022 or laser cut dv's make the pump as good or better than the 215? If not, what would it take?

I want to make more power but I am afraid that the pump may be a seriously limiting factor. I realize that a 215 will always have more top end potential than a 160 but if I'm that serious about power, there is the "stupid" pump from Piers. It's just so d@mn expensive.

I know injectors will make power, but I want to get some answers on the pump before I worry about what injectors I'll use.

Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.

The real question is how much H. P. are you looking for? Your pump with mods will support fairly high H. P. If I were you I wouldn't get a Stoopid pump unless your planning on over 600 H. P. Tune up a 215 and save money and also have a pump the is a lot easier to adjust. The Stoopid pump is full bore all the time, I can put a stock plate in it all the way back with the star wheel all the way back and still black out all 8 lanes of the freeway. I am there and that is just my . 02 cents.

I want to make about 400 hp.

Can I get a 215 pump from a junk yard for a few hundred dollars? To buy a 215 from Piers costs as much as a stoopid pump.

I am looking for the most economical solution.

Somebody with a 160 pump tell me how much power are you making. What mods have you done?

Was the pump an issue or was the turbo a bigger issue?

Thanks

Like I said the price is not the issue with the Stoopid pump and 400 H. P. you will be so overfuled it will be hard to drive in city traffic. If you live out of town or on a farm and don't care about smoke that is OK. A good used 215 pump is about $400. 00 Bench balancing the pump about $200 - $400 and you will have more than enough fuel for 600 H. P and all the after market parts are transferable to the new pump so your total cost is about $700. 00 verses $2800 for the Stoopid pump and you will have a pump that can be backed down to lesser fueling rate when needed. I can tell you I don't need the pump I have. A well built 215 pump would supply more fuel than I need, and at a lot lower cost.

I watched a friend dyno at around 475HP with a 160 pump that had been worked over. Not sure what all had been done to it but a 160 can make lots of power.

If your willing to be down for a while why not call Piers about working your 160 over, he as well as us know that the Stupid pump is not for everyone and 215's are not on every corner.

The main thing with a 215 is it's P&B's and cam that make it what it is, I know of one that is tapped out and is only 200 cc's shy of mine.

my plate is about 30thousand forward and may afc housing is all the way back as well as the star wheel. I did this to avoid too much smoke. Runs real strong but not too sure of the HP. Suspect it is around 370 or so maybe more.

a 160 pump is not as good as the 215 pump for making easy fast hp but the 160 is a good pump. when i put 181's in my truck it helped out the power level a little bit (seat of pants test) but it was not enough to make the tires spin off the truck.

First off i want to let every one know that this site rocks! ive been surffin for a while but this is my first post. I still consider myself some what new to the diesel world. I just sold my 96 dodge it had the banks powerpack when i bought it, the only thing i put on it was a new transmission with the dtt 89%tq. After selling that truck i purchased the current truck iam driving. It came with the stacks and it supposivly has a #11 FP in it. I had Downriver diesel put in the injectors, and the gov spring kit. This truck still has a few issues that i would like to take care of. if anybody in the detroit area feels like giving me a tip or does work themselves feel free to contact me. 734 546-2874

Hey Rbratby who instaled your DV? Do you have # from them?

I see your one of the few that lives close to my area. Its kind of funny comparing our sigs... We have almost identicle trucks! I need a good shop in our area. I would love to see your truck with that dtt set up. I miss my dtt truck.
