Can a bad TST box mimic a bad injector?

So the last few days I have been having all sorts of problems with my truck. Power has been bad. Its been missing when you step on it. Smokin tons of black, then started smokin white. I am struggling between a bad injector, or a bad TST. Yesterday when I was having issues, (Truck Died Thread) the TST was on and BDDL was off. This morning before I started her up, I disconnected TST, then changed the oil. I am having a tough time figuring out if my level is rising, or if it is just differing due to different temperatures. I also can't tell if the smell my oil has is diesel in it or not. What I do know, is the truck has been running pretty smooth today. Got a little turbo bark when I stepped on it, but that was it. It wasn't missing or throwing codes like it has been with the TST connected. However I also know that after running, when she is parked, the front of the truck has a distinct diesel smell. I don't know if I am just paranoid or if I have an issue. I checked the oil after I changed it, and it was about 2/8" below hash marks. After running her about 50 miles and cooling for 15 min, oil level was about 1/4" past hash marks. Please fellas, I need help!!!! Anyone offer any advise as to if you think this is a bad TST or if it sounds more like an injector

Check and see what codes the engine is throwing. To check the trouble codes turn the ignition key on and off three times leaving the key in the on position the third time, the odometer will flash the code numbers.



My truck is having the same problems and the trouble codes P336 and 341 are showing up. TST thinks it is either a bad timing wiring harness or a problem with the box. Removing the box and installing the bypass seems to have solved the problem. I shipped box back to TST for them to check, should know something next week.

Check your injector wiring for the TST box on the early models they had diodes soldered in line and the wires soldered to the diodes would break off the diodes and cause a miss and set mil code. The diodes were on the injector end of the wire loom just in side the black plastic covering by the plugs. I have had 2 break loose. Mark at TST said they don't use the diodes anymore so if you have the cable with the diodes you can remove them and just put wire in there place and it works fine.

I got P0148 (Fuel Delivery Error) and Crankshaft Per. (forgot the number) but from what I am told it is a common TST code.

Well the TST is disconnected now, but how long ago are we talking. I purchased my TST sometime in July, so it's pretty new.

You should not have the diodes in your wire loom then

Yeah I would venture to say I don't as well. Can anyone help me out as far as the smell of my oil should be... . should it be odorless, or should it smell. I do know all oil's smell different, I have Penzoil in right now. Kinda smells like it got BBQ'ed. Can't tell if it's burnt diesel or just hot oil. Some help would be great. Thanks, Chris

Some brands do smell more than others. Rotella is good but stinks alot in some trucks. I use Chevron Delo400 and it only smells for a day or two after an oil change.
