Hi,

I have a stock ETC with a 5 speed. From a dead stop if I let the clutch out at idle and stomp the gas the tires do not squeal. If I do the same in second gear I have no squeal. If I take off hard in second while turning a corner they lightly twist.

Is this normal?

I remember test driving an automatic a few years back and it would light them up if the go petal was on the floor. I did not remember if the auto had LSD and 4. 10 gears...

If my truck is weak due to a junk lift pump I will see what pressure readings when I get my gauges installed in the next 30 days...

Your limited slip diff. is working. maybe the one you test drove did not have limited slip. I have an auto and even with some mods it wont spin them. it just takes off #ad
at least I cant hear them spin but if I look in the rear view there are two black strips hehand me. . Its does not roast them but it does pull hard. .

Joe,

What you are experiencing is normal. By simply mashing the throttle in 1st or 2nd you aren't going to peel out in a straight line with stock power.
The automatic had a couple things going for it to peel out: the trans puts a bigger load on the engine (builds boost faster) and you don't run out of gear as fast as a stick.

Now if you want to do a burn out, you'll have to 'lightly' power brake it (you'll have to practice your right foot 'heel-toe' action) while dumping the clutch in 2nd gear. #ad

Something doesn't seem right here. I have a 3500 ETH and can leave 4 nice stripes. Granted it's easier with the EZ but quite capable stock too. Actualy the EZ made traction my biggest problem when empty. I had kind of wondered how you SRW guys could keep tires on your trucks.

Don't ask, least this way can try out lots of different tires #ad
With the Dueler 285's they don't squel anymore, but can still leave layers of black on the street ... .

One question;
Why would you even want to? That ain't what the truck's for. If it don't, be happy. It works like it should.

If you guys want to see Cummins/Dodges doing smokey burnouts, just show up at Brice Road in Reynoldsburg Ohio--(just East of Columbus) this weekend in the evenings. Us drag racers can't get enough burnouts at the track!!! Its COOL to watch a Dually smokim' off! #ad

Try this, give it some pedal, (maybe 1500-1800 RMP) let the clutch out quick as you role on the fuel, then stomp and hold the brake pedal, if it don't smoke then, either you just adjusted your rear brakes, or there is something wrong.

Mine will not smoke the tires, but it has gone sideways on the highway a couple times, in the rain, in 4th gear, WOT, passing somebody, just when the turbo spools up. kind of scary when it happins!

TomC,

Yes, I'll be at Poteau. My pryo reacts very quickly. You'll be surprised how fast you can get it up to 1300 degrees while towing. I had to watch mine most of the time when I was towing through New Mexico and Colorado because it just wanted to pull.

I test drove an ETC 3500 with 5 speed back in February before I bought my new truck. The saleman drove it first while I rode, and he decided to show it off. From a stop sign, he could squall them all the way to fourth gear.

My new truck is a 3500 ETH with 6-speedand limited slip. It's still stock, but it'll torch the tires from a standstill, all the way to fifth gear #ad
.

Just rev it up to about 2200 and dump the clutch. YEEHAW! #ad

That must be it. I really am quite happy with the power. I know the truck is not a drag car. I just do not want to be stuck with a problem that should have been solved. I feel bad going down to the dealer to drive the new trucks they have just to compare them to mine...

FWIW after I ordered my truck the dealer ordered two CTD's for the lot to keep in stock. With the price of fuel these days they should sell them soon.

smokin joe:
my 99 3500 would not spin the tires until i added some minor mods. after i had the DTT TC and VB installed,my auto will light up all fours through third!!!its impressive. only downfall, tires don't grow on trees..... james...

My 2000 is all-stock right this minute, and won't even chirp the tires going straight if I stand on the throttle. If I'm turning, I can get a little bit of squeal, but I think that's the LSD torquing up one wheel more than the other. #ad

I'm hoping with the DDII injectors, boost module, and boost elbow, that I can at least get a little bit of rubber laid down from a stop.

Tom C and Fj40Charles, you guys are going to Poteau? I have not been there yet, but would like too. As I don't know my way around that area the closest I have been to there is Clayton, Ok which is really fun. I am trying to think of a trip to go on, but I thought I would go to Yellowstone would be cool, but I think four-wheeling would be far better. What days are you going to be down there? Are you four-wheeling with a large group as I think if you guys don't mind I may go as well.
