I just want to correct myself for a couple things I said in this thread.

First, ABS is definetly active in 4x4. I have tested it many times since we've had some good snow fall here.

Second, I have found that it *seems* like ABS shuts off below 10 MPH.

I guess I was young and naive when I posted earlier, but I've learned some since then!;)

ABS is definitely active in 4WD - VERY certain of that after an interesting 60 mile drive through a snowfall last night. I think the confusion is from the older rear-only ABS systems which were deactivated in 4WD - if my aging memory serves me right, this is how the rear wheel ABS on my old Ramcharger worked.

On My last truck a 96' Ram/TD 2 whl drive, I disabled the anti lock brakes by pulling the fuse. The reason I did this, one day while driving in the rain, a bicyclist pulled in front of me... . the damn truck was skipping across the wet road due to the pulsating brakes... . I darn near hit the bicycle... . I liked it better with regular brakes.

Just an experiance

I just wanted to put my $000. 02 worth on this thread. I have driven 4 wheel drive for only about 40 years and don't intend to start telling anyone how to do it,but I have found a sure fire way to stop on icy roads or trails if you start to slide and the wheels are locked up. If you are sliding back push the throttle. If you are sliding forward ,put the vehicle in reverse and push the throttle. Disclaimer: if the wheels are not locked up don't try to shift to reverse.
