Can an 08 Ferd F-450 PowerJoke get 11 mpg towing a 41' Toyhauler 5er?

OLD SCHOOL RAT ROD meets DODGE 3500...

Utility Rims ????

The F550 I drive is quiet. I was fueling it up the other day and I couldn't hear it standing between it and the pump.

4. 88 and auto make it every bit as powerful as my CTD... if not more so.

Don't get me wrong, I still can't stand it.

Camp fire talk is cheap. BS talk is cheap. put it to the test and go on a trip with them and see how much fuel they burn verses yours. It is rather interesting to see them wiggle and squirm and look for that elusive excuse.

I kind of done that when we went to the Ralley in July, Cummins [2] ps [1] Pluse 4 gassers, the ps used 10 gallons more than me on the same leg of the trip and we were traveling together same speed. His grosses about 18K and a 350 mine about 14K a 2500 Cummins [see sig] I know what mine will do and he knows now what his won't do. LOL Pulse I can out pull these guys on a hill with my little o'l sick six.

I have one last dig at the F series. We have a driver that got one as soon as they came out. Last time I saw him it (f350 drw crew dually) had 80k on it. It had just been repaired again (wireharness problem), the cab has been removed now 3 times for repairs. He claims since he has owned it not much more than week has gone by without a cel or a trip to the shop.

Last time I saw him, he did have a funny story, he was on his way back from the west coast and asked if he could go rescue a broke down hauler, another Ford (6. 0). He got close and broke down himself, go towed to a dealer they fixed it. Made it 50 miles stranded again, towed back another fix. Now in the meantime another driver had to go finish the broke down guys load.

Maybe when Ford comes out with the next one they will get it right:-laf.

MY FIRST REAL ENCOUNTER WITH A DODGE CUMMINS:

Hot summer day on I-5 headed for Grapevine hill. I pulled into a rest area and parked beside 80s era Dodge 2500 with a big GN cattle trailer full of beef. The driver, a scruffy looking old cowboy, had just got out and opened his hood.

I think he's got a problem, so I go over and asked "what's wrong?" He said "Nothing, just when I do a short stop I like to idle it and let the hot air out.

I'm looking at this noisey, dirty little Cummins, covered with alfalfa dust, and I think "he's trying to do too much with this truck. "

Well I get back in my almost new 89 F 250 Ford 460 gasser, with a car on trailer in tow, and head for L. A.

I had just started to pull the steep part of the hill, (WFO) and I see this dirty little Dodge about a quarter mi. behind me.

I'm thinking "IS he catching me?" Sure enough as he out pulls me by about 5-10 mph. , he goes by me, smiles and waves.

Over the years I've replayed this story mentally, many times, but I stuck with Fords untill my 2003/ 6. 0 POS.

I now couldn't be happier with my Dodge and the TDR.

PS-Sorry for the long post.

That's a great story. Some people, like my brother-in-law, never learn. he's on his sixth ferd and has had major problems with all of them, including his new one, the 08 6. 4 Powerjoke. His 08 problems is his check engine light keeps coming on, which requires that the catalatic converter be adjusted. He said that Dodge also have problems with the cat. I told him I have never heard of any problems nor have I seen anything on TDR about them.

Most honest ford ps owners say about 8 or 9mpg here in the flat land. (when i say flat land, it is compared to the hills in colorado)

Anyone have late info on satus of the FoMoCo / Navistar-International relationship? For the first time in a while there was no mention in the last Light & Medium Truck issue.

They've been on the rocks for a while, rumor has it Ford is trying to ditch IH for thier own diesel (or possibly other OEM??) because of the 6. 0/6. 4 warranty disaster.

My avitar sugguests that I bleed red, its painful to see this catastrophe of a (not really) medium diesel. A slap in the face to the DT466. :{

F450

I recently rode to Denver and back (65 miles each way) in my friends '08 F450King Ranch. Super nice interior in a huge truck. Really comfortable. I asked about mileage, and he replied that "the best he's seen is about 9. 5/gallon, but it doesn't matter if I'm towing or empty. " He tows an enclosed car hauler with his race car in it at about 10,000 pounds total. Not much weight at all for that big PowerChoke. He couldn't wait to get out of his 6. ono. I get way better mileage than that towing my toys tandem in the mountains. I just don't get those Ford boys. Bruce

Since I have also acquired an 02 F350 7. 3 I have been spending a lot of time on the powerstroke site. Most ALL of the new F"O"RD F450 owners are whining about **** poor mileage. Most have said that if they knew the true mileage they'd stayed with their 7. 3s. I looked at them and under the hood is steel metal from fender to fender. I asked a guy who works in the Ford industry how they work on them and he told me that in almost every case they pull the cab off the frame. Can you believe that!!!???

I need to take a picture of my open garage with two one toners sitting side by side. If they can do that without fighting:-{} we can too. Both have advantages and disadvantages. But they are BOTH American made in America by American companies and American workers. God Bless AMERICA!!!!

As for mileage I can get 15 mpg in my very comfortable F350 7. 3 dually with 4. 10 gears (60 mph @ 2K r's). I get 7. 5 when towing my 20,000 pound 5th wheel with early Bronco strapped inside. It does feel that the 7. 3 doesn't strain as hard at the ole' 12 valver draggin this "Exxon Valdes around (as one friend calls my 5'r).

The one heavy load i pulled 400mi i got 11. 2 MPG... .

45ft flatbed (it looks funny behind my pickup), couple cars, engines, big band saw. Pulled on the scale at home and was 28k pickup and everything.

this was with cruise set at 70mph with 3. 55 gears, but on a 12valve

The feud between Ferd and International is kind-of-like the feud between Ferd and Firestone a few years ago, hmmm. Is it starting to look like a pattern for Ferd.

Ya' RIGHT - - we've go a bunch of F450's and 550's and on a good day (real good day) we might average 9. 7 MPG - - - empty and no trailer. Get 6. 4 with a trailer (24' cargo).

Like DCreed said - - make him prove it - -he won't be able to. .

I have said it before in other forums, but I have an 06 Dodge 6 speed, and my father had a 2000 F250 with the PSD and 6 speed. He really like that truck good mileage and excellent power. His 2000 got wrecked and he bought a 2008 F350 with the automatic. Overall, he loves the truck, but the power is really not very hot. While home on leave, I drove the his truck and it always seems to be pushing at least 20psi, and more times than not it is way up into the 30's. It rev's up over 2K all the time. Well, he jumped in my truck again, and drove the same stretch of road, and my little Cummins did the same stretch, staying 6th gear, just pulled through the hills without a trouble, no over 2K RPMs no huge boost, just tq pushing the truck through. Plus, I get an easy 20MPG, he cannot get over 12. 5 MPG. . That is insane. Needless to say, he is a FORD man to the end, but he was seriously looking towards getting a Dodge with a Cummins. Plus getting rid of the automatic. I know they are nice to drive, but man, with the manual and a Cummins, you pick the gear and the truck just flat out hauls the weight. Scotty
