Can an ISBe sound like an ISB ?? ANSWERED

the 03 will start with the fuel control actuator unplugged we

did this at training, the only noticable difference is the engine will

sound as loud as the older generations and run the system at

full pump pressure 26000 psi.

Well guys,, Looks like we have an answer. You CAN make your ISBe sound like an ISB. Now,, If the truck will survive very long, or if the throttle even works, are VERY different questions,, but apperantly yo can get the knock back.



I don't suggest you do it. This is the first I have read about it.



If anybody has more information about this that would be great.

I would not recommend doing this!



When the Electronic Fuel Control Actuator is unplugged, the engine computer looses all control of rail pressure. The pressure within the rail will hit the max limit (~25,000 psi) and the pressure relief valve in the rail will open, dumping fuel back to the tank.



In this high rail pressure condition, the cylinders receive the amount of fuel necessary to maintain idle speed as soon as the injector starts to open. This causes the injector to close immediately. Because of these very short injector on-times, it is not able to accurately perform the pilot injection event that gives the quiet idle sound.



If this is done too many times, it can cause the fuel pressure relief valve in the rail to stay open and you will loose noticeable horsepower. With the EFC actuator unplugged, you will also loose substantial power.
