I inherited a 2004 Dodge 2500 diesel and I'm trying to get it ready to sell. There's a part hanging down from under the steering column area and I have no idea what it is.

Can anyone identify this part and tell me where it goes? Two pics of the part and the third is the general area it lives in.

Thanks much,

Joe

It is part of the shift control cable, (part# 52107846AE) I just replaced mine last week. You have to replace the entire cable and is not too bad to replace.

Just a note, with this switch off the shift cable you DO NOT have to press the brake to get your truck in gear so if you feel comfortable not having this safety feature working then it shouldn't have any issues with your trucks drivability

Just my . 02, but if you're going to sell it, I'd fix it. In todays society, I can see where you could be held liable for selling a vehicle with a known bad safety feature such as this.

I don't know what engine it has or much of anything else about the truck. It's only got about 56k miles on it, but quite a few dents. I'm just going to sell it dirt cheap (thousands below wholesale) just to get rid of it. It runs great, just looks bad. The interior is like new, but it's only 2 wheel drive (quad cab short bed). I'm not even going to clean it up... straight to Craigslist.

You can tell by the build date whether it is a 305 or a 325 engine. If it was built after Jan 1 2004 then it is a 2004. 5 model and has the 325 HP engine. Some of us here prefer the 305 version. Shad
