The cap I borrowed "rubbed" the paint on my tailgate down to primer about 1/8" wide by 4 inches long because the tailgate curves outward in the middle and the cap wasn't an exact fit (it was made for a GMC). I want to fix/protect it without going to the dealer if possible. Can anyone suggest touch up paint to fix it or do I need to get it from the dealer?

Thanks for the help!

I have not had good luck with touch paint I get from the dealers. They never match that good but its better than nothing at least you got some paint on it.

That sounds like a tall order for touch-up paint. I think that will show no matter what you use. I have had pretty good luck on very small chips with the Mopar product.

Try the dent wizard. The dent wizard (at least around here) also does chip & scratch repair, including ones like you describe. I would check a few of his references, and look at some of his work before handing him the job.

I just tried out the Plasti-kote color match paint for my truck last night. It's the flame red and actually matched great. Tonight I'm putting on the clear coat, so hopefully it doesn't change the color too much. The plasti-kote is available at most Advance stores. Highly recommend it, at least for the Flame Red!:D

maybe a tailgate edge protector [matching to bedrail caps] could be a nice fix for it, and will pervent further damage. i am going to do that so my cap doesn't damage the paint
