Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Can autozone read codes on our motor?

Check engine light came on today and since the stealer is closed on Sunday, I'm wondering if autozone can check codes on my 98. 5 24V.

I'd go for it! If they have OBD II reader and correct connector, seems like they ought to be able to. IMO

Autozone hooked their reader into it and didn't get any code. After they hooked into it, the check engine light went off and hasn't come back on. Wierd...

Don't think they fried it as the truck still works!!



The plug never came out so I pulled the PTO cover and put a plug in there. When I put a new clutch in, I'll get a machine shop to drill it out and put in a new one.

I have Alex Pepper's scanner

AZ,I have the Alex Pepper OBD-2 scan setup with my notebook.

Right now,it looks like I will have to be going to Windsor on Wed.

If I do and if we could work it out,I will bring notebook and cable and we could see if it found anything.

How do you like that software? When Mike Isaac bought it a while back we were playing with it and his version had issues with reading data between the ECM and PCM. Has Alex fixed that problem? Just curious.

Re, the OBD-2 software... Seems to work OK. I'm suppose it wouldn't hold up to an expensive scanner(Snap-ON,et al). Then on the other hand maybe it would. Alex upgrades it approximately

every month. I truthfully haven't experimented too much. Have erased a couple or so "Codes". And used it to monitor the engine some. Guess if everything is working it don't do much. Alex has indicated that as soon as the proprietary info is available he will include it in the software. (Think that was mandated by some CA law,or maybe Feds. ).

Kev,I will bring to the Aug 17th get together. If we have time we can mess with it.

That would be great if you could bring it... I'd like to erase a couple of DTC codes that I have and try it on my truck and see how everything registers with the new mods that I have... .
