Can-Back (Canvas Shell) Anyone?

I'm thinking about getting one of these for my '99 SB. If you have one, how do you like it and how easy is it to put up and take down?

Thanks

Can-back??? Do you mean cat-back? as in exhaust?... if you are, it is my understanding that you have a resonator then the muffler. I don't believe our trucks have a catalytic convertor anyway... I might be wrong, all I care about is the cummins under the hood. In my opinion (if we are talking about the exhaust) if you are going to change the exhaust, you might as well go with a turbo to tail 4in...

Hope I helped. Derek

I looked into the Can-Back - I like the way they look and the adjustability... . but the wife wanted "real" sides for camping and for keeping stuff safe in.

Well, the reasoning is twofold; one, since I have the Tommy Gate, a conventional shell is not going to work, and two, the whole reason I have the Tommy is to get heavy stuff into the bed. With a normal shell (even if I made something to seal around the gate), I'd be having to take it on and off which is a PITA.

I *think* these Can-Backs are fairly quick to put up and take down. So when we leave on a road trip somewhere, I can put it on and and least keep my gear dry until we get to the destination. I realize that security is zero however. I guess that is when I'll have to put my Queensland Healer back there. She'd take care of any intruders!

They (Can-Back) seem somewhat open to the idea of me dropping the truck off at their factory in CA for a couple of days while they make a custom rear piece to fit my gate. Although that is still up in the air...

I debated getting a can back before getting my shell last year.

Still think I may get one. I love the fiberglass shell in the winter, but in the summer it would be nice to be able to take it on and off in minutes.

For what it's worth I have seen a couple and have been very impressed with the fit and finish. I was also real impressed with the folks at Can-Back. It's nice to talk to people about truck accessories who aren't arrogant etc...
