Climbing a big hill at speed and altitude yesterday, the motor stumbled and threw the check engine light.

I pulled over and bled the water separator, which I don't do with any regularity.

Truck ran better immediately and seems fine now. it does have the p0700 code which is transmission related. would the stutter from power loss throw that code, or is it unrelated?

The same thing happened a year ago, and I ended up having some minor transmission service done right before my warrantee ended, that I was not fully convinced I needed.

How often are people bleeding the water separator?

I believe if the trans is over heating it will put the truck in limp mode. That may be
your problem. Get a trans temp guage to keep an eye on it.

I do have a gauge, and it was not hot. I had only been driving for 10 -15 minutes, but the truck had been sitting for 3 days of single digit lows. It has done exactly the same thing after sitting cold in the mountains before.
