Is there a filer inside can the breather be drained or am i stupid . sorry about the double post I just didnt get alot of replies on my last post below and the oil slinging is driving me Nuts.

Thanks in advance

I have only noticed this problem after a new injection pump was installed . I dont know if this is the root of the problem or just coincedental. But if you look at my previous posts you will see the other problems

The breather is just a plastic bottle with holes in it, no filter. I ran a 15' hose 3/4" in diameter from the hose to the breather all the way to the back of the truck along the frame rail. No more problems... I used a 3/4" double male barbed connector from the sprinkler section of my local home supply to connect the breather hose to the extension.

Thanks dane I will try it ,But I have to beleive that there may be other problems due to the excessiveness of the leak. Pretty soon my driveway will look like asphalt instead of concrete.

Carhauler,

Maybe clean the engine area at the same time so you might see the source of the oil?

P. S. Great looking scooter in your picture! Love that fat rear tire with the skinny up front

It is definetly coming from the breather tube . I cleaned the engine three times last week, and checked it periodically throughout the day after i cleaned it ,beleive it or not just one day after cleaning ,the whole engine compartment is drenched. I am wondering if this has to do with the timing of the pump creating high crankcase pressures. At this point I am at a loss . I cant figure it out.

There is a filter on the crankcase breather. It is in the part that covers the injection pump gear, where the breather hose is attached. Remove the hose, and you will be able to unscrew the plactic part that is attacged the the timing cover. Inside this fitting, there is a coarse filter media, that looks much like a scouring pad. Flush it with solvent, and blow it out with compressed air to clean it. I always do this proceedure whenever I change an injection pump on a 24V. Might as well, since I have it apart anyways.

Ok Evan that worked fine . My concern is the ammount of oil coming out of that tube . I think it is more than normal,Any reason for that

Truck has 86k on it and the injection pump was just put in. FYI

Fuel mileage is about 12mpg loaded w/12k

doesnt use anymore oil than the day I bought it

ps. I appreciate your help and timely responses its been a big help

Mileage might be a hair low, but seems normal. If power and oil comsumption are ok, it rules out a problem with the rings. :D Exactly how much oil are you getting out of the breather, and do you still have the bottle on there?

There was never abottle on there. It leaks out a spot in the driveway about 6in in diam

I tried a test I cleaned engine every day for three days and after cleaning I would drive about 300mi and check under hood and it would be everywhere even under the wheel wells. Now the mileage thing may be due to a faulty TPS or APPS. Scince i have to let on and off the pedal so much everyday to get that pig moving. But the oil thing bothers me like I said Both things only occured after injectin pump replacement. Also when I removed the breather housing oil just ran out of the timing cover ?

Well, if your APPS was going out, you would have erratic engine operation and transmission function.

One thing I have noticed on some of the heavy-haul or constant-load trucks that come into the shop, is they have more blow-by than usual. This is due to more time under heavy boost, and the increased cylinder pressure causes the excess blow-by. This is very common on the PSD. However, what is unique in your situation, is that it happened only after the replacement of your injection pump... Perhaps when the pump was replaced, the mesh in the breather fitting was cleaned, allowing more blow-by to escape.

Other than that, there should be no correlation with blow-by and the injection pump. If there is, I don't know about it...

If you haven't done so already, extend the hose down to below the level of the front axle. I did that on mine, and I get zero oil mist inside the engine compartment. In terms of blow-by, I get a 4" diameter sopt in ym garage that I clean up once a week. It has been this way ever since I too the breather collection bottle off. Power is good, mileage is great, and oil comsumption is non existant.

I'll do some looking this week on your blow-by issue in regards to the injection pump replacement. :D

Evan you hit the apps thing on head thats exactly what it does trans and engine wise . Would the apps be cverd under 100k diesel added wrap? I know you dont work for chrysler but thought you might know. Also I wonder if a bottle is the answer to the oil problem? BTW If you like you can e-mail me if you would like about this issue. I do beleive that i have gotten some very knowledgeable answers from you and again I appreciate your time and thought into my dilema. I know that this is what this forum is all about but I feel like this is the first bit of real help I have received Thanks to you . Take care.

Jim
