Can I be helped?

When I start up in the morning I get an error message on my RG4 radio.

Battery Charge to low start Engine, otherwise system will shut down in 3 min.

It will shut down. 5 minutes later I turn on the radio and it will work.

It will do the same thing when I try to play on the ACC.

I took to Chrysler dealer and they said that I had alot of aftermarket equipment on the vehicle that is hooked up to the electrical system. They did not want to unhook any of them. I told them that I had 1 wire to unhook and I would unhook it and see if it still shuts down. I unhooked it and it still shuts down. Does anybody have this problem? I asked the dealer if he has had this and he said no. Can I be helped?

Your batteries may be getting low. It takes quite a charge to start one of these trucks and if the batteries are week, that may be causing your problem. Look at the voltmeter the next time you start and get the error message and see where the indicator is. You may want to take the truck to Autozone or somewhere that will do a free battery load test for you.

Thanks Allen, The dealer did check the batteries and said they were up to there charge.

Please clarify - what shuts down, the radio or the engine itself?

The radio shuts down. None of the other after market equipment malfunctions.

After about 5 minutes I turn the radio on it will work.

Sounds to me like the radio is crapped out. Like maybe some of the electronics are shutting down from thermal overload. Do you live in a hot place?

Ryan,

I live in southern Indiana. It doesn't get too hot here. Today the radio would not let me save a station. One of my saved stations disappeared and I tried to save a station and couldn't.

If everything on the truck works fine except the radio, then I place blame directly on the radio. Have you told the dealer that you unplugged all your accessories and still have the problem?

As per Alan Reagans post, check the volt meter as soon as it starts, maybe your grid heaters are coming on, that would cause low voltage for a short period of time. bg

I did notice that the volt meter was less that 14 when I first start up. I will talk to my dealer tomorrow. Thanks for the input. I have not told the dealer that I have disconnected the aftermarket toys and still get the same.
