Buddy of mine has a 2001 Ford 7. 3 liter Powerstroke with auto, volant air intake, 4" exhaust, and one of the Hypertech Programer thingamabobs.



He wants to see what these new dodges are made of. Can I beat him??? See my sig for my specs.

I bet it would be close. I still have my 2001 F250 and to me it feels (seat of the pants) faster than my 04 Dodge. Both are stock. I attribute the difference to the fact that the Ford is an auto and the Dodge is manual. I 'll have to get them both out at the same time and see.

Guess I should do a little homework on these Hyperchip thingies... . all I know is that it is a programer that plugs in and allows you change a variety of things... thus increaser power, shift points, etc... I'll have to find out just how much power it adds. I don't want to lose.

I had one of those programmers in my '99 pstroker. It wasn't that much power. (hardly noticeable)I got rid of it for a custom chip, then my truck was fast. As long as it's just a programmer, you'll smoke him. If it's the Hypertech chip, you better get those injectors. Let us know.

Stephen, Is your truck the HO or SO ? What is DDTM ? Get the Volumizer it made a huge difference in mine! Best $475. I spent.

Elite1, do you have stock exhaust with that Volumizer? What temps are you seeing? Are you pre or post turbo? Thanks jerry

I do have stock exh. , (no cat. conv. ) but the stock exhaust is pretty beefy. Just the AFE7 air system and volumizer. My pyro probe is pre turbo. When it was stock I could get it up to 1400 up a long steep 2 mile grade in 6th gear doing about 90 mph, empty. It seems about the same with the volumizer. I have noticed better fuel economy, gained about 1/2 mph with the AFE, and about 2 mph with the volumizer box.

The thing I really like about the Volumizer is it is based about 90% on timing and 10% on fuel pressure. Since the 3rd gen. injection system already has alot of fuel pressure, I don't think it is a good idea to boost it much more. I also like the volumizers switching, you can shift from stock mode to +50 HP, to +100 HP on the fly inside the cab.

I played with a powerstroke and a Dodge V10 this morning going up that grade, left them both in the dust, the v10 came in 2nd.

you were seeing 1400 stock? That seems high to me. I was under the impression that exceeding 1250 stock was extremely hard to do. I guess I stand corrected...

I thought the same thing, until I saw it! But keep in mind this is a long 2 mile steep grade, doing 95+... I probably couldn't exceed 1250 on flat ground.

I know from experience you can toy with, and absolutely punish a 7. 3 if your both stock. All bets are off if he's got any mods.

I suggest you just keep verbally sparring with him until you can get a box or something. By the way - You'll really start to spank a 7. 3 when you get to about 70 - 80 mph.

They're both running similar set-ups. Both trucks are auto, have 4" exhaust, and a performance enhancer. The only difference is that the Ford has an aftermarket filter and Stephen doesn't have his in yet (at least according to his sig). IMHO it will be closer than some have alluded to. I don't think the Dodge will "smoke" the Ford, but I do think it will win. I guess that part is a matter of perception. Winning by a 1/2 to 1 truck length isn't "smoking" someone. Beating someone the way Maddog beat that RX-7 is "smoking" someone. (anyone who saw the video knows what I'm talking about.
