Can I use Castrol Syntorq in my NP205?

Just finishing up my NV4500 install. Been busy with traveling and setting up this new house and finaly got a friend to come up and help.



All I need to do is top off the transmission and refill the T-case w/ oil. Would that Castrol Syntorq be too light of an oil to use? Will it hurt the 205?



The main reason I ask is that the NV4500 conversion only uses 1 seal to keep the synth transmission lube out of the T-case and the T-case gear oil out of the transmission.



Sooo Can I just fill em both with Syntorq and if I have a lil swapping it wont hurt anything?

Synthetics are good except for one messy feature - they'll find any leak and flow right through it. IMO, I'd go with the smelly 80-90 in the t-case, especially a 205. With the gear-to-gear style sometimes the synthetics don't 'cling' to the gears as well as gear lube and can (possibly) not provide enough lube on the gears. Just my opinion, but I'd go with straight gear lube.



As a matter of fact, I don't run synthetics in anything now except for power steering fluid in my hot rod because of the proximity of the steering box to the headers and the thermal properties of the synthetics... and I have a power steering cooler as well, but again, that's just on the hot rod.

Isnt the syntorq a heavy gear oil anyway?? Like 90 weight? I'd find out that one, then if so, for your app, I'd run in it both trans and t-case. Since we're talking high dollar transmission, why risk the seal going bad and allowing straight gear lube to enter your 4500 and ruin it, since the 4500 takes the high dollar syntorq. I don't like synthetics either, but a t-case front or rear output seal is alot cheaper than a nv4500. Which if you have a old junk output seal, its time to change anyways, let the syntorq find its way out, replace the seal top fluids off, be done with it. Just watch for leaks, and fix them asap as they arrize. This would be one case where I'd use synthetic. Plus don't have to worry about cross contamination of lube, since you running the same in each. JMO!

Yes Syntorq is the same rated gear lube as the NP205 gets it just has no sulfer compared to the regular 85-90 wt gear oil. (guess that messes up a NV4500)



I replaced my input shaft seal on my NP205 before I put the T-case in but exactly like you say I am worried about some cross contamination between the 2 and I would hate to screw up my brand new high dollar transmission.



Also I would hate to screw up my NP205. It's all in good working order no leaks or anything I can detect. It seems like the same gear oil w/o the sulfer... ... .



Anybody else have some input?
 
I would just run the same in both. Its not going to hurt the 205. The 205 has used about every weight of oil on the market over the years. From ATF up to 140 weight. It depended on the application/year and what brand of truck it was in.
