I've been thinking of changing the fluid in my transfer case. I looked in my manual and it says to use Dexron 2 in it. I have a case of Dexron 3 laying around from a GM car I used to own, and now we don't have a vehicle here at home that uses it. So I was wondering if I could get by with using it.

NO---->The gear driven NP205 takes only gear oil or 50 weight motor oil. Chain driven NP transfer cases take ATF, but we don't have those kind!

According to the Owner's manual, my t-case is an NP-241

If the case is all Aluminum it's probably a 241. But go under the truck and just above the fill plug there will be a metal tag that will tell you if it's a 241
